We are going to Florida for 2 weeks- first week at Disney, second week staying with my 91 year old grandmother, with a plan to fly home Sunday night. DH just found out he has a presentation to do on Friday that he can't miss- he is going to fly home Thursday morning. We toyed with the idea of him flying back Friday night, but with the 2 hour round trip drive to the airport plus travel time, he's just going to stay at home and I will use the extra flight points to try and fly down and see my grandma by myself in the spring.
So DH will miss the last 4 days of the vacation and I will have the kids alone for the 4 days. Plus my grandmother doesn't have the internet at her house, so DH will have to go to the library or Starbucks or somewhere to work on last minute details, which cuts into the vacation time as well.
It sucks for both of us, but there' nothing to be done, so I've accepted it. The point of this (besides venting BECAUSE I ASKED HIM WHEN I BOOKED THE TRIP about this and he assured me the presentation will be the following week!) is that he now says we can do something extra to make up for him leaving early- I am trying to decide what to do. I had been asking DH if we could do a dessert party- either at MK or HS, but DH thought it "wasn't a good value." We did MVMCP last year and DH doesn't feel the need to do it this year again (plus last year the kids were free- this year we'd have to get them tickets or pay for child care). He thinks Pirates and Pals fireworks voyage is not worth it because the lagoon is far away from the fireworks. I'm leaning towards the JBJB dessert party ($216 for 4 tix), but are there any other suggestions? Should I just scrap the idea and save us some money? We are already doing the candlelight processional lunch package to see NPH and have a date night planned and booked.

It sucks that your H will have to leave early, but at least you get some quality Grandma time.
I have read that the HS dessert party is the ONE to do if you are going to do any. Josh from Easy WDW actually broke down the cost, and if both adults enjoy a cocktail or two it can very well be worth it.
Maybe the HDDR would be fun, or a day when he sends YOU to the Grand Floridian spa while he takes care of the kids, or upgrade your hotel if possible? Maybe you just take the money for extra drinks since you will be on your own with kids and grandma for 4 days and have to fly back with the kids alone.
