I do not know. They were siblings and its at a public school. My child has been vaxed and luckily I had a booster 5 years ago. The health department said the vac is only about 59-92 percent effective though

New York has been having outbreaks for years. Our local high school has two confirmed cases right now on fully vaxed students. My infant has been tested twice when he had a cough because of all the local cases (my husband, toddler, and I are fully vaxed/updated, as are the grandparents). Scary. Our pedi also said the pertussis vaccine is not as effective as other vaccines.
My elementary school has a couple of cases in the last two or three years, as well.
The vaccine wanes with time, so a booster is needed. And it looks like it might be needed earlier than expected. Adults are a big part of the problem since many have not gotten a pertussis booster in a long time. Their last tetanus shot likely did not contain pertussis, so they are at risk of contracting the disease and spreading it to those for whom the vaccine has started wearing off and to those who are not vaccinated.
