Someone just posted this a few days ago. The zoo is really nice, and if you have kids there are paddle boats and a little train that goes from the zoo to the park near there, etc. I'll see if I can find the other post for you.

the zoo is pretty good. i have also heard great things about the children's museum, but have never been myself. my husband took DS to the natural history museum yesterday for the dinosaur exhibit and said they had fun. there is an amusement park called kemah boardwalk that is pretty fun - it is outside of the city in kemah. galveston is about an hour from houston, but is an easy trip if you want to go to the beach. there is a boardwalk amusement park in galveston open on weekends too (though it is pricey - its called pleasure pier).
The Children's Museum is amazing! We spent 5 hours there yesterday. You can get something called a city pass and I believe it's 40 dollars or something and it gets you into the Space Center, Children's Museum, Zoo and some other places. They also have a weekend pass for 40 bucks that will get you an all day ride pass friday through sunday at downtown aquarium, kemah boardwalk, and the pleasure pier, that way you can see something different each day.
I work right near River Oaks and used to live there. If you venture down the road to the Midtown area, there are lots of bars and restaurants that show all the major sporting events. They are all within walking distance of each other too. If you look up Christian's Tailgate it was voted the best burger in Houston last year. They show all the games. The museum district is really nice and the Galleria mall is pretty fabulous also. If you're feeling extra touristy you could drive about 45 minutes and tour the NASA Johnson Space Center...idk. :-)
