WTF kind of church do you go to? I was raised in the church (methodist) and I can guarantee I never heard ANYTHING about freakin' dinosaurs on the ark.
lmao!! "You are right about that for sure, Dave! Evolution is NOT based on evidence. It is really based on the idea that have to explain everything without God. If you don't believe in God, you have to believe in evolution even though the fossil evidence doesn't support it."
I drove past a billboard for this place last weekend.. I looked it up to see what it was about, and just said "What the fuck?!" In the car with Mom. Oops.

WTF?
I really hope that this book ends up in the same state the dinosaurs did...
Am I the only one who keeps hearing Samuel L Jackson yelling 'Dinosaurs on the ark? I want these mother fuckin dinos off my mother fuckin ark!!!'
I'm all for both science and creation, but come on? That book just slammed them together and said "there you go, problem solved".
I would have no problem teaching my future kids both of creation and the science aspect, but dude, not together like that. I think they can go hand in hand, in some cases, but really?! lol.

uh oh
lol. I'm almost all creation. I just think sometimes they can co-exist, but my belief system is more so off the Biblical aspect first.
Trust me, I don't know enough to even argue creation vs science. I only really know the creation side of it all. And I'm fine with that.
Moonbeamlove: If you only understand and believe in creationism and do not understand or believe in evolution there is something very simple I need you to do: never take antibiotics. Because if you don't understand that bacteria evolves, that evolution can be triggered by not taking a sufficient dosage of a prescribed medicine, that such evolution is what creates antibiotic resistant microbes like MRSA, and that such antibiotic resistant microbes can be very dangerous, then you are basically putting everyone around you at risk.
It's a simple three prong choice (1) understand and believe evolution on at least a micro level, (2) don't take antibiotics, or (3) be the one who fucks up medicine for the rest of us.

I say this with love and in jest. But only with so much jest.
I PM'ed Frkls with what I meant. I don't know how to explain it, I told her I believe more so that God created and the world evolved. That no, we didn't go from Ape to Human, but that he gave us the ability to use science. Along those lines..does that make sense?
My IL's attend a church that teach this. If you ask the preacher how all those very big animals fit on a boat together, the answer is that God shrank them. He legit thought this was a winning argument to convince my agnostic husband to leave his heathen ways. It gave us a good laugh until we remembered it is one of the biggest megachurches in Virginia.

I just don't want to get into an argument. =(
i think moonbeam believes in a God-initiated or God-guided process of evolution. i think that's what she meant by believing in "both." i can get on board with that. i am totes down with the idea that God used evolution as a means of creation.
Newton's God as watchmaker. I'm fine with that. Or only believing microevolution. I'm on a crusade to make sure people at least understand where evolution meets public health risks. Beyond that, I'll let you be.
I feel like there are ways to believe in science and god (since I do). For me, it's about considering the bible allegory, written and translated and rewritten by humans. If you take it literally but allow for the evolution of resistance, that works too.
See, I've never actually read Newton on this and only heard it paraphased. I hadn't thought of it as God "can't" intervene, but rather that he generally doesn't (to over do the analogy, I guess I'd assumed the Christ event was a major tune up, since Newton lived in the time of watches that went in for repair). But that is what happens when I don't read source texts.

H's grandma totally bought the girls all kinds of those books, because they love dinosaurs. There are some awesome quotes in them. I have pushed them into the far recesses of their closet.
