My kids school is having a dinner and fundraiser in a couple of weeks. I asked around and was told that I should dress up like I'm going to a wedding/ cocktail party .
What doesn't help is that I'm having body issues ( I'm feeling huge and am applying cream to my knees to lighten them which makes them look horrible )
SOOO ... I bought a romper but don't know if I love it ( but it covers my knees) . I need to try it on with a shaper and a strapless bra.

I wouldn't go too trendy at a kid's school fundraiser - the bodysuit is a little revealing for that crowd and a romper may be a little out there too depending on its cut. I can't imagine an event like this would be very formal - have you looked online to see if you can find pictures of people attending in previous years?
ETA - if the event is in mid November, is it cool enough where you are to wear a dress + tights, for the knee issue?

We attend our children's schools dinner/fundraiser every year. People will dress in anything from dress pants with a nice blouse to a very fancy cocktail dress. So it's all what you are comfortable wearing. I'm not a fan of the link you posted. If you want a dress maybe try Macy's, you could always put a pair of black tights underneath.
Chiquitita , I think the skirt is great but agree that the top is a pass. I actually really like it with a black/white striped top as it's pictured on the model (but not cropped LOL). Do you have a tee like that at home already? Tuck it in to the skirt, add a statement necklace and heels and you'll look great!
