What is the weather like in December? What do you put your kids in? Do they wear their princess costumes? Is that a bad idea? I found these cotton princess dresses but I'm torn on ordering a set. They are $18/piece and I'll need 3. I'm not sure it's really worth $60 when we have a dress up closet full of Disney costumes.
It's tough to predict what the weather will be....we've lived here for 3 1/2 years, and haven't been able to figure it out.
The first year I remember it being kind of cool, and closer to Christmas it was rainy and cooler. The next year was a little warmer, but not hot, and it was not rainy. Last year was hot...like 'where's the nearest pool?' hot. I hope it is cooler than that this year. lol
I see little kids in costumes year round, in the heat, the rain or the few days of cold weather, and I don't really get it. It just seems like it would be uncomfortable to me, but for the most the part, the kids seem happy to be in the costumes.
DD wasn't into princess dresses when we went but my sis took my niece the year it was cold. They just layered her princess dress over a turtleneck and leggings. Coupled with a blanket in the stroller, she was fine. If you'll have a stroller, I'd just pack the princess dresses in ziplock bags and they can change/layer as they wish.
If your DD's are really into dressing up like princesses, I say bring at least one dress per girl, especially if you have an ADR at a princess meal. If you have a stroller you can store them there if they don't want to wear them all day.
When we went, DD had kind of grown out of the dressing up in princess costumes stage. She was almost 7 at the time. I offered to bring her Cinderella dress from the Disney Store and she declined. It just so happened that her Easter dress from that year was the same color as Cinderella's dress and it was shimmery all over. We started the day in the park with her wearing a tank cotton sundress in a similar color and I left it up to her if she wanted to slip the dressier dress over that for our CRT lunch. She decided to put it on just for lunch and take it off afterwards. She liked being dressed up for the special meal so I'm glad we had it with us. It made it more special and the picture with Cinderella looked really pretty.
We've never taken costumes. I can't imagine climbing in and out of rides in a princess dress. And I really can't imagine the meltdown that would happen if the dress got torn/stained while at the park. I would consider for a special meal, but that's it.
DD usually wears a princess dress one of our MK days, and she gets it from BBB. No issues with rides or anything. We've never been in December, usually Feb. It's nice for us, but we are northerners. It's been funny a few times because we are out in shorts and t-shirts and other people are coats/hats.
I am bringing a dress for just one evening where we have dinner at Akerhaus and a FP for the frozen ride. We're going to the parks around 4pm so she won't wear it long. Otherwise I have Disney themed clothes for them.
We always went in Jan when I was a kid and it was usually pretty good weather, but I'd definitely bring some warm clothes because it can get pretty cold at night! We never wore costumes, just regular clothes. Whenever we take E, we will probably have him in Disney themed stuff as much as possible, but not a full on costume. But I have seen plenty of kids in costumes. Maybe for a princess dinner or something I would (though we never did those things anyways, haha).
