I saw it at Sundance, so they may have changed some things since then by re-editing. I thought it was good but not great, it is probably one of only a few movies worth seeing right now.
I am seriously confused by the horrible reviews it is getting- 16% rotten on rottentomatoes? There is no way it deserves that. At the very least, the actors all give strong performances. My local newspaper called it a romantic comedy, so maybe people are just confused about what it is (NOT a rom com, maybe a romantic drama).
I definitely agree with you. I have to admit that I really enjoyed this movie and thought it was one of the better ones I've seen in a while.
Just curious, but how did you think that Dennis Quaid's character Clay, fit into Rory's story?
SPOILERS SPOILERS . . . . . . . . In my opinion, Rory is Clay. This would mean that Clay plagiarized his first novel and enjoyed career success from it, but his personal life suffered from the guilt- divorce, etc, and now he's trying to admit his guilt but also knows people won't think it is him. I saw this in January so maybe I'm remembering wrong, but wasn't there a picture in a book in Clay's apartment near the end, that we get a really small glimpse of or just from the back, that looks like it could be Dora?
They never come out and say it so it is open to interpretation- Rory could be completely fictional, as could the innermost story, or Clay could be fictional, or Clay could be Rory grown up.
I saw a screening of it last week. It was okay, but I'm glad I didn't pay for it or drag my H along. I did love Bradley Cooper..yumm! such a tormented soul!
I did think it was a little weird in that it's described as a dramatic thriller. It's not a comedy and it's not a suspense/action movie. It's not a period piece either so it just falls into that the broad drama category. I also felt that it fell very flat at the end. I agree with the spoiler above.

This is what I was thinking was going on. Ok, just wondered of others had this take on it too. Thanks.
