Since starting my medical esthetics course, I've been self conscience and have amped up my skin care regime. Since there are so many skin gurus out there, can you give me an opinion? I have combination skin, that leans to the side of oily.
AM - toner - moisturizing serum - sunscreen (physical)
PM -fash wash (Eau Thermale Avene) -toner - serum (collagen serum) -2% retinol serum -Latisse -benefit eye cream (willing to change since I don't notice much of a benefit to it) -Laneige water sleeping mask
Is there anything I should be adding or taking away?
I haven't found much benefit to toner. Maybe I'm just using the wrong one. I don't use it in the morning, just at night.
Would you be opposed to taking to a dermatologist for a prescription for retin-a? It is many times stronger than the retinol that you're using. I have been very pleased with the results I've seen from using retin-a from my dermatologist.
I tried Laneige products but couldn't stand the added perfume.
Looks like an excellent routine to me - especially the sunscreen part.
My skin is pretty good, and I want to keep it that way. I also get botox (for migraines), so that helps keep any forehead or crows feet wrinkles at bay. I don't want to develop any fine lines or what not. We had a speaker come into our esthetics course, and she was my age (33), and looked so much older. If I had to guess her age, I would have guessed 45. Ever since then I want to do as much as possible to avoid looking so aged.
I do have a bit of acne and redness on my cheeks, but besides that, my skin is pretty good (I think).
My advice would be a separate sunscreen every day (not just spf in your makeup or lotion), this is my fave some sort of acid - retinol or vit C (and you definitely need a sunscreen if you're using these)
whoops, I just saw that you already have these in your routine. Your routine looks good to me. I don't know what kind of toner you're using but I would probably make sure it's not super harsh. What does your am serum have in it? You might just want to add some vitamins to your routine (through skincare products).

My morning serum is a La Roche Posay posay moisturizing serum. Do you have any suggestions on what products to use to add some vitamins?
I do all my "extras" at night because I'm lazy. Though none of those have a long waiting time, aside from the vit C, so you could do them in the morning too. Vitamin C goes on clean skin and you have to wait 20 minutes before you next product - I always do it at night. My routine is like this am - wash toner essence serum moisturizer sunscreen
pm - double wash vit C toner essence serum oil moisturizer sleep pack
BUT if you're happy with how your skin is now, you definitely don't need anything else. I'm trying to correct some issues, not just maintain so I feel like it's a little heavier. But niacinamide and vit C can help maintain beautiful skin - as do some of the other antioxidants.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions! There is no way I could have went through the other skin care thread without getting completely overwhelmed!
By the way I picked up a Peter Thomas Roth peel (firmx peel) at Costco today and it was pretty awesome! I'll definitely keep up using it. I love how smooth it's made my skin feel!
When would you use the last one--the Cosrx whitening power? Would that be considered an active? Can I use it along with retinoid or AHA? Or in alternation with?
nursewife , where are all of your injections placed for migraine prevention? i have been getting botox regularly for a few years now and i get the V above my brows and super minimal crows feet injections to help open up my eyes. my practitioner doesn't want to do the lines on my upper forehead because they really aren't there yet and i'm already dealing with very heavy lids so she doesn't want to counteract the lift i get from the current placement.
i think the placement i have seen for migraines includes that upper portion of the forehead and i've also seen some in the hairline and neck/back of the head.
eta:meant to say i have noticed no migraine prevention benefits with current botox placement. i feel like i get more cluster headaches, but who knows if it's even correlated.

She does the temples, mid forehead, between eye brows, then different spots on the head. If you google botox for migraines, you should be able to find a diagram of where the injections go. The next part of my course is on Botox and injectables. If I get a good diagram I'll let you know! The Botox works awesome for migraines. I swear it's like a miracle drug for me!

Thanks for all your info!
I use that one in the morning as a first essence type thing. As far as I know it is fine to mix with actives, thiugh I don't since I use my AHA and BHA in the PM. I feel like it made a noticible difference in my skin tone after a few weeks. I feel glowy.

No, not an active. You can put it on at any time (toward the beginning of the routine since it's really thin)
