Hello, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with a fundraiser. I'm looking for ideas to raise money for a family in my town. There are about 10 of us on the committee and we are brainstorming.
If you have raised money, can you tell me what you did?
My sister organized a very successful 5K run/walk with a side raffle as a benefit. Everything was donated by local businesses and she made money off race entry fees and raffle ticket prices.
It was a huge amount of work, but the results wound up great.
A lot of chain restaurants will do a percentage of a single day's says for a donation. Our grade school is doing one today with California Pizza Kitchen. I've also seen signs for this at Krispy Kreme and Wendy's. It's a simple way to make money without much work.
Car washes are also easy, but won't be bringing in much cash.

Or check with the non-chains. They often will give a higher percentage. Some local places will give our PTA 35% of the sales on a given day.
My mom's done a ton of card party fundraisers. Most companies will donate a little something if you send them a form letter about your charity and some places donate pretty good stuff.
If you are running the event with friends then they can chip in something as well (Mom's had friends donate sports tickets, homemade afghans, lottery tickets, gift cards to local restaurants, plane tickets).
You can bundle a bunch of little things together to make a bigger basket. She might bundle minor league baseball tickets with a bunch of sports stuff to make a big basket, for example. You can fill a donated travel cooler with picnic or BBQ-related stuff.
If you're planning an event, run a 50/50 raffle since it usually brings in a lot of cash. Sell snacks, sodas, and beer/wine if you can.
