Last night was the first night, and we were there!
We went to the dessert party before the show, and enjoyed the sampling of sweets, along with some warm appetizers. Santa Goofy was there, and I think DH was disappointed that he didn't get a picture with him. If you knew DH, you would think it was hilarious that he will go for getting a picture with Goofy any time the opportunity arises, but he really loves Goofy. The signature drinks were all cold drinks, and people we talked to were as disappointed as we were. We had really good warm drinks at an event last year, and warm drinks seem more Christmas-y. It was a little cool out, so warm would have been nice. They had coffee and hot tea, but not the same as a spiked hot cocoa or cider. ;p Everyone had been looking at long sleeves and sweatshirts in the stores, because most people had worn short sleeves and shorts to the park and it never actually got warm. It was actually pretty comfortable overall, considering how hot it can get here, but it was just cool enough that cold drinks were just enough to make you look to warm up a little. Even people from cooler climates were commenting on it being kind of cool and many were wearing sweatshirts.
They had a special viewing area roped off for the dessert party attendees, a bit further back so that you could actually see more. I have no idea why, but the grouchy CM checking our wristbands made DH and I go into the area roped off for disabled people that was in front of the rest of the people from the dessert party. It was a much larger area than they needed for the disabled and their families, but it was still weird. There were a few other groups that they put in there with us who were just as confused as we were. They did eventually tell the people behind us that they could let their kids come up....except the people that they told didn't have kids. lol It was a great view though, so I'm not complaining.
They gave us 3D glasses that turn points of light into reindeer. It was really fun to see fireworks with reindeer heads, and there were a couple of times where the reindeer went with the song playing, but without the glasses you wouldn't have seen anything at all, so that was kind of fun. They did obscure the projections a little though, so DH ditched them and I picked and chose when to wear them, depending on what the projection was. I had fun wearing them on the ride home, turning all of the car lights and traffic signals into reindeer.
We both really enjoyed it. DH said that he still preferred the more 'classic' Osborne Family light display, but I felt like this show was exactly what I needed right now. The right amount of cheesiness and fun, familiar characters/scenes. fireworks and snow. I thought the fireworks were great, but honestly I haven't seen too many of the fireworks shows at WDW, so I don't have too much to compare it to.
I have a short video with a little of the fireworks right at the beginning, that I will try to post later.
