my nails are normally pretty weak - tear easily and just not great. but with the dryness of winter coming i know they will get worse. any suggestions for good treatments to get them, then keep them strong?
Plain old calcium pills from the vitamin section of CVS have worked wonders for my nails. I'm pretty active, so they broke and peeled all the time, and I struggled to get them to grow much. After a couple weeks of daily calcium I noticed a difference. I'm about 6 months in now and they are so much stronger, plus if anything does happen they grow back faster, it is amazing! Obviously calcium is great for your bone health too, and I think it has a positive effect on my hair as well, which has always been healthy but seems to grow at light speed these days. So wins all around
I've also been on an anti-aging kick and my new hand cream obsession in Supergoop Forever Young Hand Cream with SPF 40. I use it every AM, then during the day or at night as needed. I'll also add CND Solar Oil when my cuticles seem dry. Both those make my nails look healthier when I don't have polish on. I've totally given up on anything like strengthening polishes or similar paint-on treatments - I tried several and they never made a difference.

Prenatal vitamins are the only thing that keeps my nails from splitting. I stopped taking them a few months ago and my nails are starting to split again, so I need to get some more.
thanks all - will check out the oil recs, i've tried the polishes/treatments and they were okay, nothing great. they also weren't any better when i was on my pre-natals when i was TTC/pregnant so i don't have much hope for them helping much now. ironically i did get a small bottle of tarte's marajuca oil in my ipsy bag today so will try that out.
