I can't speak for it right now, but I stopped watching this season. It definitely lost its appeal with weird story lines (like Blair marrying a prince?) and I thought there were too many weird characters introduced.
This season could have improved, but I think I'm done for good.

It lost its appeal with Dan's ridiculous hair this season. i think the first couple seasons are worth watching. I'm over it now.
I've started to watch on Netflix...I think I'm getting to where it took a dive...Season 4...but I will continue to watch because it is ridiculous and I think it's fun to have some ridiculousness in your life...plus, I think I might have a crush on Chuck Bass...what is wrong with me.
other high school shows I loved: Dawsons Creek & Gilmore Girls, they definitely declined after high school years, although Gilmore Girls wasn't as bad since so many of the characters were not high school students.
Oooh! I was also equally obsessed with the books. And very distraught at the casting. (Vanessa? Really?) But I watches the first three seasons and ended up loving it. I turned into a total Chuck/Blair fan.
I stopped watching when they went to college and Hillary Duff showed up.
Oh, and I am still upset that they left Chuck's monkey out of the show.
Do the books follow the same story line, or just the same characters? It sounds like I may want to read them, but I don't want to if I'll just be repeating stuff I've already seen on TV
I stopped watching this season on principle due to a certain couple pairing. (Won't spoil it in case) I have been informed that I can now start watching again, so I watched the season finale and will probably watch next season since it is the last. I also can't stop even though it really isn't that good anymore.
