Damn. This has been a big deal at my work - a university. I have probably spent 7-10 hours in meeting addressing the rule change and I'm not even in HR. What a cluster.

Same. Meetings after meetings after meetings, adjuncts losing positions due to the overtime rule, changing position descriptions, switching support staff to hourly wages. A total waste of time and effort.
Tritto. this was a big deal around here, particularly for how to deal with post-docs.
I wonder if this will just be a delay, or an undoing.
Can companies still implement this on December 1 if they chose to?
I'll be honest that I'm not happy with how my company has handled implementing this. I'm losing benefits and flexibility and was just told the details this week. Not much time to rearrange the budget, childcare, etc. They seriously cut off my home network access 2 days before telling me that I'm being reclassified. I'll be looking for another employer, but in the meantime...

Yup I have seen a lot as well. I watched a lot of people get a well deserved bump because of this rule.
I work at a university as well and I know a lot of people in my department hadn't heard what changes to their positions would be. I don't travel like they do so we were all wondering how they would be affected.

At my present organization, I was waiting for a final call tomorrow to find out if some of my colleagues would be getting a much deserved raise to $48K to put them above the OT regulations. They are underpaid right now for the market and truly deserve the money. I hope they still get their raises.
Two people on my team got knocked down to non-exempt and lost their telework this week due to this. I fought like hell to get them bumped to no avail. They are going to be furious.

The letters about these changes went out to our staff last week. I bet HR is now wishing they had waited a week. LOL.
I really hope they don't use this as a reason to pull back the raises they gave. Some staff members were seriously underpaid and really deserved the raise. What a nightmare.
My co-workers have out a lot of work into implementation of this. Anyone have the case cite handy?
Is this what you need?
State of Nevada et al. v. U.S. Department of Labor, Civil Action No. 4:16-cv-00731-ALM, recently filed an emergency motion for preliminary injunction to enjoin the implementation of the FLSA regulations. On November 22, 2016, Judge Amos L. Mazzant of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas granted the motion, temporarily barring the regulations from going into effect nationwide.

Well fuck. I just spent a lot of time on a project for this. Reclassifying positions, offer letters, etc. And now I'm on vacation. This is going to be fun to go back to on Monday.
Shit. I just increased my medical FSA by the amount of the small raise I'm supposed to get due to this. I'll take a sizable hit on my take home if it doesn't actually go through now.

While this is frustratingly last-minute and will cause a lot of headaches for nearly every company (aside from that one that pays everyone $70k...provided folks there are properly classified from a duties standpoint), the bigger implications of this are promising as we head into a Trump administration.
Though he has wielded his executive & administrative powers for good, Obama has expanded the role of the executive branch. Now more than ever, we need the judiciary to provide a check on that before Trump & his agencies use the same for evil.
My company implemented this already. We got a new time tracking system that we punch in and out of. I was so hoping to get the salary bump as I have been asking for a raise forever and have only gotten a couple COL raises. But they reclassified me as hourly instead and it's a pain to loose the flexibility especially on days when I have to travel.

I am VERY interested in seeing how they reign in the NLRB. They have been getting on my damn nerves. However I speak as someone who works in an HR department who has implemented very generous employee friendly policies. I acknowledge many people are not that lucky and do not know their rights.

Is the travel for work?
Yes, I have to occasionally travel to other sites which are day trips. More rarely I have an overnight stay.
