I'm terrified of starting orthodontics at the age of 6 with braces and orthodontic/bone graft surgery soon following. He's only one but it still freaks me out.
I think you mentioned in another post that your son was born with a cleft palate? My brother also was (lip and palate), and has been through all that...surgery, braces, more surgery, bone grafts from his hip, ortho work out the ying yang. He was a real trooper through it all, and it looks incredible. He has the barest of scars and no speech issues (he's now 21 and just graduated college at the top of his class). He has super self-confidence, and people (especially girls) just flock to him. He's a handsome guy. I'm not posting just to brag on my brother, but I just wanted to share as I know it's a big mountain to climb. There is another side though!

Thank you. That does help. It's been a long year with 4 months of weekly doctors appointments and 2 surgeries already. We start speech therapy in 6 months. It's nice to get a break from the constant doctors appointments and preparations for surgery. He has been a little trooper already. He smiles at the surgeons even after they mess with his mouth. His scar is already hardly noticeable.
