Help me choose/find a bed for my 5 yr old

I'd go with the ikea one. Footboards are a pain when making the bed and simpler is better for kids to do it themselves.

I'd go with the one from Ikea too. DD1 has a metal daybed from them and we really like it.

I like the ikea one too. It also looks a little lower. Poor thing. Does she hurt herself when she rolls out?

I know this is different from the ones you suggested, but I'll put in yet another plug for IKEA's Hemnes daybed with drawers. It holds SO MUCH STUFF (a ton of stuffed animals for DS) and it can flip out to double-size if you pull the slats out over the extended drawers. As for the falling out, you might want to think about putting a pool noodle under the fitted sheet on the open side. We have a big body pillow that we put on the floor for DS, because he used to fall out of bed all the time.
