I booked Disney Cruise #2 for Dec 2, 2017 when I was on Disney Cruise #1 (10% off when booking on board) plus I can buy this Target Disney Cards and pay that way for an additional 5% off.
I'm thinking that I might want to do a few days in the park this time around. Should I do it before or after the cruise? The cruise is Dec. 2nd. I'd also like to hit a water park but is it too cold in Dec. for that? I also think maybe a day at Universal because my sister always talks about going there.
My son will be 9 at the time. Is it worth it to stay on the property so we can hit the parks and come back and rest and then go back at night?
I'm just looking for other people's experiences, advice, suggestions, etc.

We haven't done land and sea yet (we've done both separately!), but if I did, I think I'd do the parks first. We had sea legs for a couple of days after getting off of our cruise. Also, we tend to go-go-go in the parks so I'd want to have the relaxing part second. I always vote for staying on property, but I know not everyone agrees. I like the convenience of the buses/ferry/monorail.
Everyone I've talked to loves Universal. It seems like your DS will be a great age for it, too!
I would say parks first so you can relax once you get on the cruise. I'm 50/50 on staying on site because my last three trips have been offsite and I enjoyed the space and money-saving but I have an on-site trip coming up which is my first in 20 years so I am not 100% sold on the benefits.
Also maybe if you stayed offsite you can just go to a Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party beforehand instead of getting park tickets? It will let you rest during the day and then get to the park at 4 and stay for the party. I think 9 is a good age to try doing that.

Last year we did 2 days at Disney, a week cruise and then one day at Sea World. Definitely do the parks first. We were exhausted by the time Sea World came around.

Thank you!!
The advice I always hear is to do land first THEN sea. Like do 3 days in the park, get yourself good and tired out and then hit up the cruise ship to RELAX.
If you want to do Universal I would plan on staying on Universal property for the Express Pass and JUST do Universal. If you want to do Disney World I would pick 2 parks and focus on them and stay onsite at Disney ( it is really more convenient and less logistics to figure out) Unless I had a week before the cruise I don't think I would do Disney & Universal & a cruise all together.
