We'll be doing DVC rental again for our December 17 trip and want to put in our reservation after the holidays.

BLT was awesome for us last time. The monorail was perfect to go back in the afternoons and I liked the smaller feel of the resort.
But I really want to experience AK and I think E would love the animals.
We had so/so experience with the buses last time. Our first day we were actually late to HS for breakfast b/c we waited 30 minutes for a bus around 7:15am.

Do you park hop? How many days do you plan to spend at mk/Epcot? The trip to AKV is just really long. It's not even the buses in general but the long drives that just killed it for me last time we did it with a kid.

BLT for sure. I'm at AKL Jambo house this week. It's a 20 minute bus ride to MK, sometimes we share buses with kidani villages, but not always. I have not been impressed with the busing (not disappointed either, we expected it. They need more buses to MK since it's such a long drive). Edited for spelling
We love AKL Villas, and recently booked to stay there again in June. But, we always rent a car when we stay there, and only bus to MK.
We're doing Boardwalk Villas in January, and aren't getting a car when we're there, but the cost of a car is worth it to us for AKL.
but, I'm in not a Contemporary/BLT fan (the convenience is great, but I love the theming of the other Disney hotels), so I have a bias toward AKL over BLT to begin with
I would vastly prefer a monorail resort to the AKL. I love the look of AKL, the animals are awesome. If you aren't doing the parks everyday it's fine. I'd think about a split stay.

We didn't hop last time, but I would like to this time.
We plan to do Sat-Sun with 1 rest day. Probably 2 days at MK and 1 at AK.

I have done a split stay like this before & loved it 2 nights at AKL & 5 at BLT. On our AKL days we did a pool day & an AK day. BLT we focused on MK & Epcot with a day at HS too. We also did a pool morning.
I love AKL & the food options, but like the convince of the other resorts too much.
We have done both. BLT is my favorite resort because I love being able to walk to MK. AK was ok but we really didn't see a ton of animals and the bus rides were longer, although not as bad as I had anticipated. Villas are kind of dark too. The pool area at Kidani is really awesome though.
We stayed poly for our last trip and it was our first time at a monorail resort. We are now monorail for life. I hate busses and waiting for busses. We waited 30 mins both times to leave DHS and AK. Never more than 10-15 minutes for the monorail- even after wishes.
