I do believe in ghosts. I used to work in a building that was once an old hotel (turn of the century). There were several stories, most of which I never experienced. However, the basement used to be a ballroom....and the elevator would sometimes take us down to the basement randomly (no one was down there to push the button, and we never pushed it either). That was a story of unrequited love, I believe.
I did have an experience with a deceased friend who came to me in a dream. She had been murdered trying to break up a fight at a party. She and I had been best friends but had stop talking a couple years before this happened. We had a falling out over a guy. (we were in HS). I had a lot of guilt regarding our fight after she died. I dreamed that I was talking to my parents about her being dead (we were looking at her obituary) and she came running over in the dream and said, "I'm not really dead!" and "it's okay!" and we talked about losing touch and losing our friendship and we hugged and made up. She kept saying, "I'm not really dead" I spoke with a psychic about it and she indicated that "I'm not really dead" refers to the existance of the afterlife. True or not, it was pretty awesome. I woke up feeling at peace.
I've had stuff happen in the house I grew up in. A stereo turning on by itself, hearing the glasses rattling together downstairs while i was alone upstairs (think about the sound when bottles jiggle together when you open the fridge), closet door opening and closing by itself.
One time, when I was really upset and crying one night, I felt the warmth and pressure of a hand on my shoulder. It was jarring enough that I stopped crying, but was too afraid to turn around. it just slowly faded. I always thought that was my dad, but who knows.

The retreat center I work at is supposed to be haunted. There is a shadow person in one lodge and a couple of children in the other lodge. We sometimes find little hand prints when we've not had children stay there. We've also had guests complain about children playing in the hall when we don't have any children staying.
I've never seen a ghost with my very own eyes but I've had a couple weird things happen. I'm agnostic about ghosts.
We live in an area that was a huge battle area for the Texas Revolution and the Mexican-American War. We've seen a guy, about 6' walk through the walls, diagonal across rooms, etc. like he was here before the house. I see him when I'm laying on the couch and not feeling well. Stuff has been bumped over without any explanation, etc. We looked into it and there was a campsite in our neighborhood (we live by a creek that feeds into a major river, so it makes sense) and there were wells/watering holes that were poisoned by the Mexican soldiers to kill Texas soldiers and we have one of those wells in our yard.
Lillie also sees him. Her ears perk up and she growls, then she's fine. There is also a dog outside that paces across our patio but only goes in one direction.
I've also had someone sit on the edge of the bed next to me and comfort me after FIL died, similar to cleo. I think it was FIL coming to say "good bye" (he died suddenly of a heart attack and H and I were the only ones who didn't get to say goodbye). I also saw a figure that looks like Pops hanging over the bed by H just standing there.
I have had experiences that some people would consider ENCOUNTERS (see picklepie's first post), but I don't really believe in them. Still, it's nice to have something to trot out when people start swapping stories.
So you think you were just dreaming?
See that is the thing. For me I was asleep.. I saw the girl in front of me. but I can't say with 100% certainty that I didn't dream it. If I had been sitting my ass on the couch watching TV and she walked up to me that is different. Just weird so I don't know if I believe in them

Yes, I lived in a haunted house during an internship once.
Footsteps up and down the hallways, food in the fridge was moved, DVD's were in the player, things like that.
One day came home, all of the furniture in the 3 bedrooms was pulled away from the walls, pushed up in the center of the room. Maintenance guys knew nothing about it, and I lived there alone (only female intern that summer).
One morning got up and went to the kitchen, and every single cabinet was wide-ass open. Scared me so bad I showered and got ready at the shop (I was a landscape intern at a golf course) and wouldn't sleep there anymore.
I ended up dating (and marrying) the superintendent at the course, and he told me that every intern who'd ever lived in that house swore it was haunted, so it wasn't just me.

Ghosts? No. Demons/evil spirits....yeah, I kinda do.
Difference being that the ghosts would be disembodied souls which were once embodied - humans. Demons/evil spirits being like fallen angels, never embodied.

Ughh, I hate the obligatory cabinets/drawers open scene in scary movies. Freaks me out!
I think so. I've recently been swayed towards the believing corner after some encounters the neighbors of my parents had w/ the former (now deceased) owner of the house who they never knew, met, or even saw a picture of. Current owners are non-religious, very educated, totally down to earth, normal people. They told my dad some things because they thought they were going out of their minds. His reply was, "well, I guess you met Gene. He loved that house. Apparently he still does!"
As for the demon talk, I know for sure those are real. Anyone who spends more than 2 days with a 3 year old will be able to tell you that demonic possession is very real indeed.
You're going along, minding your own business, thinking you're having a pretty good day with your kid. Then you ask her to put on her shoes to go outside. That's when the demon shows up. They take possession of your child, and force them to writhe around on the floor, screaming loud enough to make the neighbors consider calling CPS on you, about like: "I DON'T WANT TO WEAR MY SHOOOOOEEESSSS!!!! THEY AREN'T THE RIGHT ONEEESSSSS, I WANTED THE PURPLE ONES!!!!! I CAN'T FIND THEMM!!!!! I WANT TO GO OUTSIDE!!!!!! I NEED MY DOLLLLL!!!!! I DON'T WANT TO GO OUTSIDE ANYMORE!!!!!! I NEED MY SHOES!!!!! NO!!!! THE OTHER PURPLE ONES!!!!!! I DON'T WANT TO PUT ON SOCKSSSSS!!!!"
This continues for anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes. Then the demon has had their say, and your day returns to normal. But be aware that this demon can return at any time, for any reason. Incorrectly cut sandwich, shirt that won't lay correctly, can't find a red crayon, etc.

Yes. My family and my husband's family are all a band of believers. LOL
My best story is from when I teenager. I was watching TV in my mom's room. My back was to the bedroom door. I suddenly turned and looked towards the door/hallway. I caught this small, black, shape coming into the bedroom. It was wispy on the edges and the size of a small dog. It was creeping in, almost hesitant. The moment I turned and saw it, it stopped and made an immediate right and went straight into the next room...my bedroom. YAY. This was in broad daylight, on the weekend. I was super shocked and even went into my bedroom after a few minutes but it was gone.
