Next Saturday after family Christmas we are having some friends over. We can't really do our annual Christmas gifts so we are having everyone over. It won't be hard to switch from Christmas dinner to party mode, just have to move 1 table. On the invite I put appetizers and desserts so people know I'm not doing a full meal. It may be up to 12 people. It starts at 7pm. These are our fire department buddies so simple is usually easiest. I need a critic of my menu.
Bacon wrapped smokies(h asked for this) Pigs in a blanket wreath (h asked for this) Buffalo chicken dip with tortilla chips Veggie platter Cheese platter Cocktail meatballs Chips and dip I was thinking a few finger sandwiches, just in case someone didn't eat dinner. (Chicken salad, ham and Swiss, turkey and cheddar. Stuff we will eat if no one does)
Desserts: Cream puffs Apple cake Pumpkin pie Ice cream cake for H's birthday Christmas cookies
I did put BYOB on the invite too, usually all Fd get together are byob so it's not out of the norm. I will have mixers and soda available. Also vodka, rum, gin and jack on my liquor dispenser. I never used it, hopefully it works lol. I will get a 12 pack of angry orchard, Sam's Adam and Coors light just in case, the stuff I know they drink. Also my homemade apple moonshine.
Do you think I should add more or substitute?
I know it sounds like a lot of booze but these guys and gals drink. Even though it's BYOB H likes to have enough generic beer and liquor in case someone doesn't bring any.
I think that sounds perfect. Our get togethers are similarly casual and we also have tons of food and drinks even if it's a small crowd. If you wanted something dinnery without making sandwiches you could do taco nachos to go alongside the chips and salsa you already have. Even if people eat dinner, it seems like everyone loves some protein with their booze.
amaranth good idea! I'll skip the sandwiches and make nachos. I have taco meat in the freezer so it's even easier. Plus they will probably enjoy nachos better.
