I really can't drink anymore? Because there is fabulous aged eggnog waiting for me at my brother's house, and a really nice bottle of champagne here for me to drown my aloneness on NYE. I rarely drink anymore, but being told NEVER is kinda killing me.
I'm growing older but not up. My metabolic rate is pleasantly stuck, let the winds of time blow over my head. I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead.
Drinking can increase the side effects of ADs, especially sleepiness, so it is best not to drink until you know how the med affects you. It is also advised not to drink until you are on the correct dose, but I don't think a drink or two would hurt anything. Like a PP mentioned, some ADs like Wellbutrin (bupropion) have a stronger interaction with alcohol but if you are drinking in moderation it usually shouldn't be an issue.
The problem with Wellbutrin and alcohol is that the extended release tablets can "dose dump" meaning the active ingredient can be released from the tablet faster than intended. The rapid release can cause seizures in some people. A few drinks will not cause this to happen, but a daily, heavy drinker is certainly at risk. I'm sure other extended release ADs have the same issue.

I'm on wellbutrin and haven't had any issues. I have a glass of wine maybe 4 nights a week, two glasses if it's Vikings/Game of Thrones/Outlander night on tv
I was always super sleepy on A/Ds and never made it more than a few months on them because of it. During those periods, if I drank they made me even more sleepy. If I were going to have a drink at a restaurant, my H would have to drive home, for instance. But I didn't completely cut out alcohol.
Um who told you that nonsense? I've been drinking on lexapro for 16yrs.
My doctor advised against it and I read the patient packaging. Plus logic says why drink which is a depressant and counteract the anti depressant. Like I said, I don't drink much anymore, I'm just checking for the ocasional event.

Okay, it's Celexa, sounds like the occasional drink will be okay, how about with BuSpar for anxiety? I just skip that if I want a drink or two?
You should ask your doctor or get a 2nd opinion. Please don't skip your meds from internet stranger advice.
The dr did say to take the BusPar on an as needed basis, and that I'd need it less as the other started to work. Thank you for the reminder though that my dr is ultimately my source of information. I'll be seeing her again Monday and I'll ask her about this.
