Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend?

Does anyone watch Top Chef? I like that show, but their first episode the end was filmed at a plantation (they're in Charleston) and a black man got eliminated   I wonder if there was any drama behind the scenes. What a mess.

I finally booked my tickets for vacation in April...Lisbon, Portugal and Malaga, Spain. I had to book or I would drive myself crazy looking up destinations. 
I think my boyfriend is going to go to Trinidad in a couple of weeks and my schedule actually worked out to go for 3 days, but now he's changed the dates because he has to be in Europe a day earlier than he thought, so now I can't go   I hate cold weather and wanted to get away again.

My MIL is going to visit on Saturday and I have plans to meet a friend for lunch on Sunday. I haven't gone out with a friend in months so I'm looking forward to it. She's very close to getting engaged so I'm excited to help her plan.

kicks I saw Top Chef. I was annoyed with the elimination setting and result too. I was like pissed when the white guy said he could relate to how the black guy felt about being on the plantation because his mother was a civil rights activist. Bitch please. Not even close.

I was going to post early this week about how I forgot to register for a conference I went to today. I emailed back and forth with my supervisor for a week but forgot to actually register. It was free so I planned to just sneak in but my coworker couldn't go so she gave me her entry ticket. Thank God she did because they were at the door scanning the tickets. I'm a bad liar so I don't know what I would have done without a ticket. I'm sure they wouldn't have cared much but I would have felt like a fool.

Another random, I really want to wake DH up to go make me a PBJ sandwich. I have cramps and want to stay in bed with my heating pad. I'm so hungry though.

Yeah he got a major side eye for his comment of "understanding." I thought Top Chef used to have more diverse contestants but it doesn't seem like it this year. I don't think there are any women of color in the new contestants.

I'm also a bad liar. I guess that's a good trait to have!

My room has no heat today. I'm this close to peacing out for the day. I've seen my students and I shouldn't have to work in these conditions. There's other, less cold, rooms I could go to but I don't wanna.

Nah. I walked around the building finding people with warm rooms and struck up conbersatiins. That included the librarian, counselor, and secretary. I got very little work done.

My weekend has been very full. My son had a play date last night and we didn't leave their house until 10:30. The mom and I really enjoy chatting so it was nice. Today was super full. DS had a bday party at Sky Zone, dd had ballet and we had a holiday party for the kids. DH had to work so I did all that ripping and running solo. There were too many tears and I almost joined them. Tomorrow I am sitting at a cafe and doing some me time!

If anyone is looking for a book to read over the holidays, Zadie Smith's Swing Time came out last month and is so good. Much better than her last one!

My mil stirred up a whole new level of resentment and inadequacy for me. Yaaaay. I've consoled myself with petty plans like finally having a baby after moving to another continent. In the meantime I will ramp up sending pet photos to her.

We went to my work Christmas party and they played Spanish music. I got up and asked H if he wanted to dance. He started acting dumb on the dance floor because he hates Spanish music and trying to dance to it. OK OK go sit down then. When we got back to the table I reminded him that he married a Hispanic woman (he said "Yea right", asshole) and even though I don't listen to this music at home often I did grow up with it and am around it at my family's houses.

On a happier note I definitely proved my roots at the party while dancing my heart away to all the Spanish music. People kept complimenting me which really surprised me.

I'm going to see Rouge One on Friday and I'm SO EXCITED. I hope it makes all the monies and everyone whose been bitching about the diveristy dies inside.

I'm going to a concert on Saturday and then my H is hosting his student recital on Sunday in a new (to his students) and fancy venue.

My SIL will be here for all of that, too, which is a nice bonus.

On a downer note, my paternal grandma (the one who is supposed to be the healthiest of all) now has lung cancer and now has pneumonia for the 2nd time in just a few months. So my parents are headed to PR this weekend to visit her in the hospital.

The cancer was discovered when she and my paternal gpa both got pneumonia at the same time, which ultimately led to his death in March.

So yeah. It didn't really hit me yet till I put it all in writing. Ugh.

Only 3.5 days, and then 3 days in Malaga. But I figure it'll be enough! I really wanted to do Morocco but it didn't work with my boyfriend's travel schedule so I figured I'd settle for Lisbon and Malaga

I was treated like crap when I studied abroad for being Brazilian and brown. Ended up in therapy afterwards. Will never go back.

Well...we planned on taking the girls into Philly and going to Christmas village, Reading Terminal Market, ice skating, Franklin Square, etc and staying over, but it looks like it's going to be a nasty day on Saturday. I think we're still going to go and just make the best of it.

Okay, cool. I wanted to give you some suggestions, but you don't have that much time! Do go to Alfama, though. Visit the castle and eat dinner at Farol afterward. Hopefully, @natariru won't kill me lol, but it's my favorite country so far. The combination of distance, value for the money and how much I liked it brings it to #1...i.e., I might have enjoyed a couple other places more, but nowhere that's less than 8 hours away. So there's that. I liked it enough that we've tossed around the idea of buying a vacation rental there. It's still not off the table, but either way, it's the first place I've been where I know for sure I will go back multiple times. I even started a Pinterest board for it . We may go back this summer, I'm just waiting to hear from my two friends about their destination wedding plans before figuring it out. But I think you will love it.
