Just so you know, I'll totally be for keeping you company whenever you want. Even after my husband gets to move out here...I mean, he is usually gone at least 4 days a week, so at least you won't be lonely. and your DH will still have all your friends in MKE!
Aw, yay!!!! I'm very happy for you. I know it is all moving super fast but just think: soon enough, you can chat with me all day long!!! (and fine, Kari too. lol.) We have IM!
Congrats AngryHarpy! This is great news and I'm glad you are accepting the job. The rest will work itself out. If you hate DC you can always move back since your DH will be there for a few months anyway - though hopefully you won't, at least you know it will be ok either way! This sounds like such a great opportunity.
I wouldn't get rid of your car, particularly because I assume you will live and work outside of DC proper. I would actually consider driving out. And ditto giving less than 2 weeks. Make next Friday your last day.
I also want to say (since I feel so invested in your posts, lol) to seriously not consider giving 2 weeks notice. You are moving half way across the country. You will need the time to process everything, pack, spend time with your H, etc.
Would they really give you a + reference if you gave two weeks? If the answer to that is yes, then maybe I re-consider my advice, but I think you need out of that toxic environment, like ...yesterday.
That said, you have some leeway I think with your report date for the new job. See if they will give you a month, especially if there are no PCS or moving costs involved.
No I imagine she has zero leeway with her start date. There is a 6 week training for the job so they have to have everyone start on the same day. But I definitely agree with the rest of your post.

Whatever you do, no 2 week notice for asshole bosses! I'm sure they would not have a glowing review either way, so no need to get jerked around by them til the day before you leave.

Squee! I am so happy and excited for you!
I agree that you should keep your car, especially if you'll be living in the 'burbs at any point. You don't need it, but it will make certain things much easier, like grocery shopping.
As someone who moved from Madison to DC a few years ago, I bet you'll love it I'm in central VA now, but coming out here was one of the best things we ever did.
Of course, I hate winters, so I am sure that helps. But DC-Chicago or MKE flights are pretty painless

I was only basing this off my last federal jobs, but I am also not a lawyer.
I don't know if it has to do with being a lawyer. I think it just has to do with mass hiring/training? I have no idea. They are just super strict about start dates.
I've been waiting to hear something like this for ages. Your soon-to-be-old-job had me raging for you. They make lawyers look and sound like total phuques which I absolutely hate. There's enough lawyer hate to go around without your shitty-soon-to-be-exes (YAY!) adding to the shitpileon.
yay yay yay yay yay.
No more weekly time accounting. No more buying your own business cards. No more unreasonably unreasonable expectations (just the merely unreasonable). I am so thrilled you're out of that hellhole and on to better things. I hope they never get another associate (and if they do that the associate is a dick who gives it right back to them in spades.)
If your friends who you ate staying with don't have parking available and you want to keep your car, you can park it at my place...I have a spot that I don't use right now (though maybe I shouldn't offer because I'm hoping to not be here by October)
