My mom needs a gift for my niece (her granddaughter). She is giving her younger sisters American Girls, but A is a little old for that now.
SIL suggested new sperrys, but this is what she is required to wear with her uniform, so especially un-exciting. I thought my 15 yo niece would be difficult, but I think the tween is worse.

My dd is turning 11 tomorrow and between birthday and xmas is getting a jewelry box, a Bluetooth clock radio ( link below) , adult coloring book and high quality markers/pencils, Bluetooth earphones, lego, and board games.
I agree, this is a tough age. My cousin is 11 and I had a hard time with her this year. She's somewhere in between little kid toys and big kid stuff. She does like some dolls still, mostly for their clothes and styling. She still uses her Monster High dolls, though who knows how much longer because she mentioned her friends don't like playing dolls anymore.
She still likes Shopkins and Pokémon Go. She plays with her ipod a lot, so her mom had suggested iTunes gift cards.
I ended up buying her stuff related her to activities (ice hockey and dance), not sure that's a help.
Not sure what your Mom's budget is, my aunt (cousin's grandmother) bought her Beats for her big present this year.
My niece just turned 12 and I bought her fun patterned leggings and a sweater jacket from Kohls. I've also given her manicure supplies, gift certificates to the movies and nail place, and accessories like a purse/scarf combo from Target.
