What did you like/dislike about the workouts- I've heard rave reviews from friends, but I figured those who disliked them (and probably didn't lose any weight or tone up) wouldn't really announce that they hated the program.
My gym only has year-long agreements and since we're planning on moving about 6 months after my current contract expires, I need to come up with a different plan.
Of note: it's too hot (for me) here and the mosquitoes cause bad allergic reactions if I don't treat them right away, so running outside for free isn't my best option
Personally, I did not enjoy P90X. I felt like it was more geared to a man, and a mans body. You had to buy equipment to go with it, like a pull up bar, free weights...etc. Because of my disappointment with P90X, I discovered Insanity! I absolutely love it! No equipment whatsoever! It is just intense! I feel great and I am only about 2 weeks in and feel/see a difference!
Not sure if this helps! They are obviously both good workouts that can have amazing results! I just prefer no added expense/equipment! Just pop in a DVD and get to work!

Thumbs WAY up. I disagree that it's geared toward a man's body. Women can lift the same weights. We did have to buy some additional dumbbells, but we use them all the time.
We did our first round of P90X from March-May 2010 and have done it a few more times, since. We both had fantastic results and it helped kick our butts back into a regular workout schedule. We've both maintained the losses we had for two years, now.
We also have Insanity, and while I love the workouts, I didn't like that program on its own. I like the weight training in P90X. We do a hybrid program now, using discs from both of them - P90X for the weights and Insanity for the cardio. I felt like Insanity was too cardio heavy to be a stand-alone program.

I love P90X and will probably do it again (or the new version). I was reasonably fit before I started, but I have never felt more "overall" fit than during/after P90X.
I love that everything is planned for you, so you don't have to wory which muscle groups to work on which days, etc. It's also somewhat varied. Unlike NROL4W, you can do it home without too much equipment.
The only downside for me is that it's a time suck. The minimum is 60 min. and many days are longer (if you do the workout and ab ripper x like you're supposed to). I found 6x / week too much, so I normally did 4-5x which meant it took me longer than 90 days.

I agree. P90X is equally good for men and women and there are plenty of women on the DVDs.
I also agree about Insanity. I started it, but felt like I losing many of my strengths gains from P90X because it's cardio focused.
What you like will depend on your goals and workout style, I think.
Insanity takes less time & requires no equipment. It makes my roasacea flare up, though, so that's con for me. Both are good, but different. A hybrid is probably the best.

I loved it. I feel like i saw/felt results in just a couple of weeks. I felt stronger and could really tell a difference in the number of reps I did in a very short amount of time. HOWEVER, it requires a commitment. Each video is roughly an hour long. I would shorten it some by skipping the warm up and cool down but it still takes a while and it's 6x a week.
I really enjoyed the program. The workouts were excellent and I really felt in great shape when I finished it. I went through it 1.5 times. I just got p90x2 and look forward to starting it post pregnancy
I modified it a bit after 3 weeks once I got used to the workouts - generay substituting plyo for kenpo (I loved plyo) and after doing the yoga DVD twice and being sick of spending what seemed like the entire 90mins doing downward dog, I skipped it entirely.
But yeah overall its one of the best DVD workouts I've done. Definitely try borrowing it and trying it out.
I did it a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. It was tough and time consuming though as each work out was at least an hour long. I was definitely more toned and loved the result.

I am so grateful for this thread! I bought Insanity and have yet to use it...I was in the midst of my yoga teacher training when I got it. Now I am thinking of starting it to get some cardio going on...I get plenty of lean muscle tone/maintenance from the constant yoga so I think it sounds like Insanity will fill in some of what I'm missing.
