Let's say that someone you know is broke (i.e., unemployed/student) and also owes people lots of money (personal and loans). They buy you a gift that you can't even afford for yourself.
Do you just appreciate it and be thankful, or is it kind of annoying? In like a WTF way?

Could she have used a giftcard or gotten a really good sale? I would just be appreciative, or maybe just thank her and say something about it being too much.
Tough situation. I think you just be grateful, thank her, and move on. My girlfriend gets cute Gap stuff for her kids all the time, but she always catches really good sales there so maybe that's how your sister did it?
this sounds like my sister. she owes my mom a lot and has debt, and is already planning all the things she wants to do and buy for the baby. i know she means well, but it doesn't feel right accepting gifts when she owes $$$.
