Ok...making a quilt for a friend...she picked out the pattern and the grey flannel plaid set. I've tried to mock up two different options...she likes red as the other color, but I worry it'll be too dark.
Block 1
Block 2
Keep in mind, this is my VERY rudimentary powerpoint drawing skills at play, so don't judge. Does Block 2 look too busy? Block 1 too dark? Help me!

If you are married to that block layout, I like block #2 because it's more interesting, visually.
I don't care much for that layout, of all the Delectable Mountain blocks it is my least favorite. I know she picked out that pattern, is there any flex there in changing it up? I think the red/gray combo would look good with something like this:
I like that that there's a center focal point to really draw the eye in. In your examples I think with the two colors + the layout that the mountain pattern gets lost.

Not sure if she's up for flexibility, but I'll definitely check! She loves the "old" patterns for quilting...definitely not my style at all, but it's not my quilt. She also wants it done in flannel, so I'm sure that'll be a "joy" to work with. LOL

Gotcha. My aunt is really into the Civil War-era patterns and blocks, so I know what you mean about things not being your style.
I went through a whole bag of pipe cleaners while delinting my machine the last time I did a flannel quilt. Good luck!

Thanks so much everyone! I think the 2nd one looks better as well, so that's what I'll be going with! Hopefully I don't make a mess of it, since this will be the first time I've ever sewn with flannel.
