Where do you get nice, quality yarn? I want to crochet my uncle a nice thick hat for when he's out in Colorado. All I've ever used is Joann's and HL yarn.

I really like ordering from loveknitting.com. They're out of Texas (I think) and have a TON of different yarn options. I've also used Deramores.com for yarn and they also have a large selection.
Are you looking for a specific brand or type of yarn??

I'd like to get a nice wool or alpaca yarn, something natural.

Both of those places should have what you're looking for! Good luck!
Go to a small local yarn shop! I personally prefer to buy from local stores and you can get such a better feel for the quality of the wool in and the colour in person.
A hat is a perfect one-skein project where it won't break the bank to splurge a little. All the stores in my area also have ball winders available so you can buy from a hank and get the ball wound. Really opens up more options when you are looking for the nicer wools.
I like Alafoss for anything Alpaca, but I love Malabrigo Rio or anything from Manos del Uruguay for merino wools. Their yarns are gateway drugs!
Also if you have a specific project in mind (Ravelry link) I can suggest project specific yarn. You can also go through all the completed projects on Ravelry to see what others have used and what works best.

Manos del Uruguay is one of my absolute favorites of all time. I keep going back to their yarn over and over again. My LYS carries it and I keep buying more and more and more and more.....

Tonight I happened to pass by a local yarn shop and stopped in. That was a very good and very bad idea. lol I ended up with 5 skeins. 😳 One for the hat, one for wool socks for DH, and 3 for my girls.
Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm going to keep those brands in mind when I start my next projects. I wish I could pip bc the yarns are gorgeous and so so soft.

You have both my apologies and Yay Yay Yay!
Glad you found some nice stuff to work with. I sometimes go and pet my stash!

This is a bad habit I just started. I underestimated what I would need for Dh's socks so I had to go to the yarn store again. This time I walked out with 3 balls to finish the socks, and 3 more to do a couple of hats. :/ I just can't get over how soft this stuff is!
