Working in liberal politics the last few months have been particularly hard. I was working around the clock up to the election an schedule a caribbean cruise for a few days before the election once my work was out the door. I was so excited to relax and then...the results hit. Which meant I was fielding emails and calls on my cruise, came home and had to really hit the ground running. Then I had a ton of travel and a etc., etc. Our office totally closes down between xmas and NYE. I was so looking forward to some down time. THEN my mom scheduled a foot surgery for the 22nd. My mom is divorced and I'm the only. She also puts herself in charge of xmas every year. She is currently totally immobile, I have to help her to the bathroom, help her bathe, prep her meals, keep up the house, etc. All while also trying to work last week. Oh and since she was in charge of xmas dinner and such I did all of that, and she decided to do a craft project (tie blankets) for the kiddos so we made three of those. Xmas eve was a mess because I had to keep getting her resituated, getting her to bathroom, and also running the show that I barely got to sit down an enjoy.
I haven't slept in in days (and I don't sleep well so I really rely on those days I can). I get up no earlier than 7:30 and hit the ground running, getting her out of bed, situated, breakfast, her coffee that has to be a certain way. I'm exhausted. I haven't been able to just sit down and chill out. My favorite time is when she's finally in bed at 11, and I can play on my phone in peace. I don't get to sit down for more than 45 minutes at a time. I'm a lazy intorvert who needs to recharge. This is killing me!
My situation over the holiday wasn't as bad as yours, but I can relate a bit. My mom doesn't take good care of herself, so she's always sick. Naturally, when I showed up at her house last week for a nice, relaxing Christmas break (because I've been working/stressed with a newish job), she was just starting to get sick. Rather than share her bed (because the guest room was already taken), I opted to move out to the sofa for the entire stay because I didn't want to get sick. Well, she got full-on sick, which meant I ended up doing all of the cooking for Christmas breakfast and dinner.
Then I got her sick.
I was so tired and miserable I decided to come home a day early. So now here I sit, sick, but at least I'm on my own couch and will get to sleep in my bed tonight.
Sorry you didn't get the relaxing holiday you hoped for and needed, @pdx18.
Fortunately I'm home now and she can take better care of herself! calle28 no a home health aid isn't an option mostly because of the cost:( and it's a short amount of time so I can tough it out. It just sucked, but I'm glad I'm on the other side now.
@pdx18, I'm really sorry you're going through that. You've been busy and taking care of your mom is not an easy task. I hope things will calm down after the holidays. Not sure what kind of foot surgery she had, but how long does she need to be non weight bearing? Is something like This rolling scooter an option? Hugs. I hope you can get some rest soon.
Thanks everyone! @blueyes623 yes! She does have a scooter. The problem was the splint and everything was so large she couldn't life it on and off the scooter on her own. It's off now so she's zipping around. Thank god!
