Its going to be at least another year before we can do this project but I'm starting to think about it now because I'm sooooo excited. Our home is a 1600 square foot 3 br/2 bath one story. Our bedrooms and bathrooms are all on one side of the house. Last year we did a complete demo and remodel in our guest bath. We took out the dellapitated shower and put in a tub. Next I want to do our master bath. It's small. There is no room for a large tub, just a standard, so I would like to make it a walk in shower. But I'm thinking of what's best to keep value in the home. Is it undesirable to not have a tub in the master bath?
I agree with Alzi. I just think there needs to be a tub somewhere in the house.
I would rather have a nice walk-in shower than the standard shower/tub combination in the master. I actually think it is somewhat common in newer homes to have a nice walk-in rather than a tub.
By the way, did you do the bath remodel yourself or did you hire someone? We need to gut our guest bathroom sometime next year.
We bought new construction a year and a half ago - most floorplans we had looked at did not include a tub in the master. The builders we talked to had replaced the area where the tub was with a second walk-in - they said they saw more demand for a second walk in over a tub that hardly anyone uses.
We're also in the process of purchasing a short sale/investment property and in that house doesn't have a tub in the master bath either.

I'd much rather have a large walk in shower than a tub. We have a jet tub in out master and I think I've used it twice in 2 years. And it's a PITA to clean!

I agree with others that as long as their is a tub elsewhere in the house, you're probably good. We added our master bath on a few years ago, and included both a walk in shower and a jet tub. I was sooooo excited to be getting a jacuzzi, and honestly I've used it maybe a dozen times in 4 years. The kids use it more than us. We love our walk in shower though. I definitely reccomend getting dual shower heads! I like my water really hot and my H is a wuss and likes his barely warm, so this way there's no having to compromise when we shower together.

H did the demo and we brought someone in to finish it. They did all the plumbing, drywall, tile, installed tub, vanity, toilet and accessories. They were great and I'll have them back for our next bathroom for sure. I'll get their # for ya later if you want.

We do not have a tub in our master, but we plan to add a whirpool tub. I think if its between having a small tub or a walk-in, I would choose the walk-in.

That'd be great! I'll save it on the computer until we need it next year!
