Do you guys have a place/room whatever that you keep all your stuff AND knit or craft? I have an "office" with a desk and computer that is never used and I am going to scour some second hand stores for shelving, table(s) and a comfy chair to put in it to make it my knitting room. I want to set up a little speaker and phone charger next to the chair since I like to listen to podcasts while I knit.
Do any of you have a designated space? What's in it?
Also I ordered a set of sock size DPNs from knitpicks last night and some sock yarn. I am determined. H wasn't thrilled since I haven't knit for a while, but I haven't been able to figure out a comfy spot to sit after we got rid of the recliner I used after surgery. I need a chair with arms. I am off next week though so I am hoping to make a dent in the blanket I am working on for him. It's a super basic pattern but he is looking forward to it. I'm also hoping to find a few more things to mess around with and hoping my sock stuff comes soon.
I have a craft room and various other spaces in the house, because I have more hobbies than a craft room can hold. It was our formal dining room- we used it 2-3 times in as many years and realized it could work for us better as a place to hold the equivalent amount of supplies as many smaller craft stores. It holds most of my indoor crafting (as opposed to my clay/glaze/kiln/ceramic tools and saws/sanders/drills/router in the garage), my fabric, my various sewing machines, my Silhouette, my paints and dyes and way too many other things to list. I am gradually moving my yarn in there, too- it's been in my bedroom on shelves for years, simply because that's where I got most of my knitting done when my kids were little (now I get most of it done in the car, waiting for them).
Have fun getting everything set up! It's important to have a nice place to "get away" in your own house.
We have an extra bedroom that holds all of our "hobbies." The treadmill and sewing machine are in there. There is a tv mounted on the wall so it works for both. It is usually a gigantic mess . I usually knit in whatever room I'm sitting in.
I took the other large bedroom and made it my sewing room with a few tables, couch, tv and bookcases. I ripped out the old closet today and put in bookcases for fabric storage. However it is still a work in progress and painting it in September upended the organization task. Currently I have a path to get to the closet as guest room use (I was putting things there as I organized) kept making me clean the guest room out.
It also doesn't prevent me from bringing things into the living room.
I would avoid getting everything at once. As I work through setting up the space I've found better solutions and layouts so I have some random extras.
H and I have a lot of hobbies. We upgraded our house because of it. I needed another room. He needed another car-length of garage space since his are all outdoor (kayaking, fishing, etc.).
I don't have a "door" on my craft "room" but that is because our upstairs "den" is currently a playroom for our daughter and I enjoy having her around when I'm working so I use a 10x10 niche off the den for my craft room. H took the 2nd bedroom upstairs and it is his man cave for watching sports if we want to watch something in the living room, playing X-box, whatever. He has a weights set in there too. When the playroom converts to a den or game room for the whole family he and I will probably trade spaces.
I have bins on the lower shelves of one of them that hold yarn. And I use scrapbook paper boxes to organize my fabrics on upper shelves so they are stacked neatly and don't get dusty or pet hair on them. I have some old crafty things my grandma made me on another shelf, some funky things that make me happy like some old records and my daughter's artwork on another. And then in the corner I have a dressform that was my grandma's.
I have a drop-leaf table that was my grandma's that I use for my sewing table. It's nice that I can expand it when needed and keep it pushed up against the wall under the window for when I don't. I keep the sewing machine on the bottom of the other shelf so it is out of the way and the table can be used for other purposes when I'm not sewing.
I don't have a dedicated cutting table yet but plan to get an inexpensive kitchen island for that purpose. It will probably serve as a partial divider between the play room and my space since there are no doors and the opening is 9 feet wide. I have another set of shelves on the opposite wall of the 2 big shelves that I need to relocate. And on that wall is also a hole in the wall that is supposed to be for a big deep TV but instead it holds plastic storage bins for my girl scout supplies. I am about to purchase this inexpensive design wall to hang on that wall to cover the hole when access isn't needed so I can do my quilt piecing whenever it is convenient for me, and just leave it all set up when I don't have time to work on it.
I need to get a ceiling fan because the room has a large window that provides light for it and the upstairs den so the heat gets intense. And the ceiling is kind of high. I am going for an industrial look there though so I havent seen something that also provides enough light. Alternatively I might get better lighting and just put an industrial looking fan on the shelves. I am going to get metal letters to hang above the table that read, "CREATE."

I use the guest bedroom as a joint bedroom and sewing room. I have my sewing machine table as well as a cutting table in there along with the IKEA 5x5 cube shelving and a queen size bed facing my design wall!
I only ever knit on the couch in front of the TV so all my current project gear is stored in an end table downstairs. Stash yarn and fabric is in the storage shelving and closet upstairs.
I would love to have a cozy chair for knitting but my cat likes to be close by while I'm knitting so he hangs out on the couch with me. He doesn't touch the yarn, but likes to keep a close eye on it!
I have a craft room It doesn't have a cozy sitting space that you would want for knitting (but if space was unlimited...). It is pretty much outfitted from Ikea. It is a flippin' disaster right now from the holidays--but maybe I'll post pix later. I have a couple of large table tops for my sewing machines (3) and some of the Alex drawer units to store things like scissors, seam rippers, etc. I have a larger Alex unit upon which is my Silhouette and the paper/vinyl is stored in the drawers. I have an awesome fabric storage unit made from stacking one of the 4x4 Kallax units on top of a Hemnes dresser. LOVE it. But, by far, my favorite piece is my cutting table made by my dad from some 2x2 Kallax units. I did add on a kids craft station this summer so I could work while keeping an eye on the girls. Between the in room storage and the walk in closed that the room shares with the guest bedroom, all of my crafts are stored in the "craft room." It has doors so I can close off the mess (which is the current state LOL!)
If I crochet (maybe one day learn to knit--going to need some advice from this group!!), I do so on the couch in the family room so I am near the kids.
(as opposed to my clay/glaze/kiln/ceramic tools and saws/sanders/drills/router in the garage)
You have a kiln? How did I not know this? Did I tell you I took a pottery class this spring? Had a lot of fun throwing pots!
I've had it for a few years! My wheel is newer and I haven't had a ton of time with it (I know how to use one and have done so in the past, but, it's taking me a little while to get back into shape with it), but, it's fun.

I have a craft room, but it's mostly used for storage. It's got a desk with a lot of shelves and cubbies in it that house all of the various crafty things I've tried over the years. The yarn I keep on more shelves in the closet. Since I also only knit on the couch in front of the tv, I'm only in the craft room when I want to use the swift and ballwinder to wind hanks of yarn.
