Brought to you by a chat with a coworker this morning who got annoyed when the Starbucks barista spelled her name wrong. Her name can be spelled basically 1 of 2 ways.
Are there caveats like whether it's in an email, you've met the person before, etc.?

It doesn't bother me at all and never has. My name can be spelled about 4 different ways and I would never correct the barista. I have bigger fish to fry.
Generally, it does not bother me. I would never expect someone to know how to spell my name without me telling them, because it's definitely not a typical spelling. I do not care how my name is spelled on my coffee cup.
However, I do get annoyed when people who should know how to spell my name still spell it wrong. Like, a co-worker who has known me for a while, a boss, or anyone who sends me an email (my full name is in both my work and personal email addresses). If you can type my correct email address into the TO: box, you can spell my first name right in the body of the email.
My name can be spelled tons of different ways. I've had someone spell it correctly without me telling them exactly twice my entire life. I got use to it very early.

I haven't had anyone misspell my name that I can remember. I get annoyed when my daughter's name is wrong only because she is in kindergarten and still learning her letters and how her name is spelled.
Only if it's someone that should know. I spell the shortened version of my name differently than most people so I don't correct people if it's at a restaurant or something. But if it's on FB or at work it's like, my name is right there, you really can't even try? I make an effort to attempt spelling/pronouncing names correctly personally.
But then again you can have a simple name and still get weird spellings so.. whatever lol. E's name gets misspelled sometimes. By the daycare director. Who has 2 other kids with the exact same name in the same class. One of which is an employee's son. Haha. Sigh.
My name is very common and easy to spell. No weird spellings. Very classic. Two major/popular musicals and two movies have my name in the titles. It is misspelled frequently. I don't get it.
and my last name is also a very common English name. not quite as common as Smith, Jones, but up there. my maiden name was a common Scottish surname, but with my lisp, I had a hard time pronouncing it.
I've gotten in the habit of just spelling everything out but feel like I shouldn't have to.

I have the most common spelling of my name so no one really ever spells it wrong.
However, people think my last name is my first name all the time and it really bothers me - like, they can't even be bothered to read the email or whatever. If I sign my email "Honey" and you respond saying "Hi Spider" that is really annoying.

2 ways to spell mine. I only get a little perturbed when it is family spelling it wrong or close friends or coworkers. It really shocks me when I send an email and sign my name and the person responds back with the incorrect spelling even though it was in the email I sent them 2 times!
My name is only spelt one way, that I know of. And I've never had anyone spell it wrong. But tons of people ask me how to spell it. I think it's weird as my name is so common.
You know I did think of something related that bothers me. People call me "Michelle" all the time. I do have an M name...but it's not Michelle. THAT bothers me....
MrsMB - I had some crazy lady try to tell me that I pronounce my name wrong once. She actually said, "No, if it's spelled like that then it's pronounced (not the way I pronounce it). You're wrong." Dude. It's my name. I'm pretty sure I know how to say it. Leave me alone.
Now that I think about it, baby girl will probably get her named spelled incorrectly. It's not a unique name, but she will most likely be the only one with her name in her class. Though a common nickname is heard fairly more often (our overnight dog sitter and our nurse were both named the shorter version), but still has two common spellings.

Only if I've known someone long enough that they should know how to spell my name. As in family, friends, co workers. Definitely wouldn't care at the coffee shop.

My sister gets this too! She has the same name as you. So weird!
