It's a winter wonderland here, and everyone is freaking out. There's maybe half an inch of snow on the ground, and the entire surrounding area has practically shut down. Schools, businesses, and roads are being closed because of the "road conditions."
it's pretty cold here, 40s I think. fwiw, I don't have snow chains, snow tires, or any of those accessories, and don't have the experience driving in wintry conditions, so having snow/ice on the ground actually is dangerous for me (and many other drivers in my area) to drive on. I understand people in the north laughing at us in the south in the winter. and vice versa in the summer. however, I know many folks up north don't have central a/c, so heat waves can actually be dangerous in the northern parts of the country, and Canada, as opposed to down here where we have central a/c everywhere and know the warning signs of heat stroke and know how much water we need to be drinking.
34 degrees. I know we have some posters down in the teens. Fine. I still hate 30 degrees and anything below it. I'd much rather be hot any day. There miiiiiight be some mild jealousy wanderingenough .....just maybe
We are slow today at work. Thank goodness. I'm tired.
With windchill it feels like negative five right now. I'm still on break so luckily I'm bundled up with my pups inside til it's time to leave for my Dr appt. Tomorrow is supposed to feel even colder and so as of now my plans include staying inside.
The Seattle area gets like that too. I'm from the east side of the state where it's normal to get snow. People over here freak out over an inch of snow. To be fair, there are some nasty hills that are super dangerous with the slightest bit of snow/ice.
I hate that the Seattle area has very little a/c in homes/apts because "it doesn't get hot here". Sure when I visited my extended family here growing up it was 68* in July. Now, not so much. It can get just as hot as the east side of the state. And yet... we just sweat. Or buy ugly a/c units for our windows & run fans 24/7.
macmars45 - I'm in Oregon, so I totally understand. AC in homes/apartments is really uncommon here, which makes July and August absolutely miserable. All of the stores sell out of window AC units and box fans every single year. The only type weather Oregonians are prepared to handle is rain. Anything else is absolute insanity.

It's actually beautiful here today after a few days of rain, I think it's about 55 degrees. Supposed to get snow on Friday though!
Although it's been nice having family here, I'm SO ready to get back to normal. I'm really used to being by myself a lot (well, with DS) and just doing my thing and having certain routines and I am craving that right now. I'm bad at hosting people because I'm just not interested in entertaining people most of the time.
((Hugs)) suzv. That is pretty short notice for a very important change. I'm glad you have backup options though.
pooh8402- ditto, except I have all wheel drive (from my single days when I would go snowboarding).
Just had a nice visit with my step mom! Glad she came over and entertained C for an hour! I am pretty exhausted today and am thankful it's Weds and that much closer to the weekend.
So, we constantly have people parking in front of our house. It's more annoying than anything especially when we have visitors. People from two neighbor houses and from a community across the way (which the HOA is working with the city to fix). Anyways, a car has been in front for a week so my step mom encouraged me to leave a note. It was very nicely written. Well, I messed with the wrong neighbor and I half feel bad but half don't. Her husband has cancer and is dying (this is where I feel genuinely horrible). Apparently the car is the daughter visiting from college. The part I don't get is why she doesn't park in front of her own house, where there is room. Anyways, I overall feel bad and told the woman as much. Some neighbors have called the police on them and I told her no way do I care that much, it was just a kind request as we have visitors as well. They are renters and from what she said have issues with a lot of surrounding neighbors and I guess I was the straw that broke the camel's back. I feel horrible though...i don't wish her situation on anyone and it's apparent she is having a very hard time (she kept apologizing for how crazy she was being and I could only empathize I would be in her situation as well...and apologize for adding to get stress). The conclusion is she will ask her daughter to not park right on top of our driveway so we can at least get in and out without an inconvenience. I just might have to make some food or dessert and take it over there...she could use some love and kindness right now.
((Hugs)) HoneySpider. When do they leave? I can totally relate...i feel that way every weekend and anytime DH has time off. He totally messes with our routine, getting out of that house is much more annoying because he doesn't get that we are on a schedule/routine with L and only have so much time to be away, etc. Sometimes I am very thankful for Monday morning to arrive😀
luv2rn4fun, tomorrow. Overall it has not been a bad visit but having my family here and then DH's back to back has been a lot for ALL of us!
Of course, going back to boring things like work and paying bills isn't exactly fun either
Having company is exhausting no matter who they are, how much you enjoy your time, etc. I am sure it will be nice to get back into your normal routine, even if it means work and paying bills. I was so ready after New Years...probably more so because we have C's bday on top of all the holiday stuff. And we have all been sick and C is more of a mess because his schedule is all off right now.
Enjoy having your house back to yourself tomorrow and one on one time with R!!
katespade Send your winter wonderland to me!! It's just bitter cold here... with no snow if it's going to be cold I want the nice fluff!!!
I just worked 9.5 hours with 1 10min break... yikes. I'm so exhausted, so thankful I don't go to work until a little later in the morning tomorrow.
I'm going to ice cream or sushi for a quick snack with one of my best friends tonigh to catch up! Looking forward to that then hanging with hubs all night at least the last half of my day is gonna be great!
travelbug - Gladly! It's barely enough to even qualify as snow, but still enough to cause all sorts of problems. It's not supposed to get above freezing until Saturday at the earliest, with a low of 14 degrees tonight, so the roads are going to be sheets of ice for the next few days. If H's work doesn't close tomorrow, I'm going to have to cancel my doctors appointment because he'll need to to take the truck to work and there's no way my car will be drive-able.

It was nearly -40 here this morning. At least it's sunny and hardly no wind so quite pleasant by winter standards. We went to the passport office and submitted baby's application. They nearly rejected her picture because they could see the white sheet in the back round. The agent was really good as she managed to crop out the offending part of the photo. Maybe she felt sorry for me with my fussy child.
I'm irrationally annoyed. I've been sick with this cold/sinus crap for a few days. I've been forcing myself to get a few things done every day but I'm freaking exhausted. Well last night I wake up to H puking. Blah. He stayed home sick today with some stomach bug or food poisoning (which I don't think it is, he's had it before and it was much worse, but who knows). I'm mostly annoyed because every time I get sick, he gets more sick. So I end up being the one doing things. Anyways, hopefully we're both doing better before we leave Fri!

I am jealous of the warm temps everyone had today. Guess if I want better weather I should move south.
I just got home from my first ever hot yoga class and I LOVED it! It was warm and toasty and the burn from the yoga was amazing! A friend and I went because we bought a groupon but after these 5 sessions are done I can totally see myself buying a package. Hopefully I can talk her into continuing on with me.
