If I use half an avocado in my salad - whats the best way to save the other half for tomorrow? I googled and saw some ideas but wasnt sure I trusted them. One said place a cut onion in a bag with it, another said dunk in water a third said just place in air tight bag (which I have tried but it still browns)
Perhaps there is no way to successfully save wothout browning? Thought I would ask
I think it is going to brown a little, no matter what you do.
What seems to help most is to leave the pit in the cut side (use the other half first), squeeze a little lemon or lime juice and put a layer of plastic wrap over the flesh, so as little air as possible hits it. Then store in a plastic bag. I still get a little browning, but it's just around the edges, usually. I either just eat it, or cut off the bad spots and feed them to my dog.

Leave the pit in the unused side and cover the cut surface tightly with press n' seal wrap.
Leave the pit in - I use this stuff called Cover Blubber that is like reusable press and seal. Avocados seem to love it, but it's also great for covering half a melon, etc. I have an avocado half that is over a week old right now and still perfect. I leave the pit in one side and wrap tightly with press'n seal wrap.
I do the same. It still browns a tiny bit, so I just lightly scrape the top with a knife after I remove the pit. I know the brown spots are fine to eat, it just grosses me out.
