Hi everyone! It's been a while. We found out over the holidays that we're having another DD and I wanted to get your opinions on my new nursery idea boards.
We're going to use the same room and many of the same furniture pieces that DD#1 had. Here is my post of her finished nursery. But I obviously want it to be different and unique. My two inspiration starting points were some amazing fabric I found:
I was thinking of using this fabric for the nursery if it was a boy or a girl. I'd like to pull out the teal accent color and use it in various locations.
I love this rug but of course it's listed as out of stock. So I did a reverse image search for it and found it from a few other sites. I've mocked up a dozen other rugs with that fabric but they either don't match well enough or are too dark for the space.
The other starting point I liked was this Pottery Barn Teen rug. I love the idea of using lilac/lavender in the space because it would work well with the light green walls but I'm not a fan of overly purple rooms. I have two fabric options for the roman shade that I think could work with those rug colors.
What do you think? A lot of people are saying the first option isn't girly enough but I don't take a lot of stock in that sort of stuff.
I like option 1 but the 3rd one does catch my eye more. The truth is if you love that fabric and can get that rug it will pull together nicely.....and you liking it is what matters. I do think the rug matches well!! Congrats!
Yes the bold roman shade fabric (1 & 3) is working well with this room! I normally tend to just go light colored with everything but I'm liking this challenge.
@juno the folklore fabric reminds me of your nursery rug! We could little girl folklore nurseries together.

Is painting the walls an option? I think a navy wall with the teal and gold accents would look less boyish. Let's face it though, unless its throwing up pink and purple most people will say its not "girly".
Fwiw, Rejuvenation has a pillow in this fabric so this is what gave me the idea (the pillow popped up in my FB feed recently).

Yay sisters!
Are you sure you want to change the room? It looked so lovely! Have you started your DD1's next room? FWIW, I did a gender neutral nursery, and focused on DS's big boy room after that. DD has barely been in the nursery (I added some pink accents for her), and she'll probably keep sleeping in my room for the next few months. I'm so looking forward to decorating DD's big girl room. The nursery is the smallest bedroom, so it will become a guest room.

Cool thanks for sharing that picture! The Land of Nod also has a bench with the same fabric and they used their gold bar rug which I also love but the yellow rug + yellow chair seemed like too much for the room.
No I'm not interested in painting the room right now. The room get's early morning light but it otherwise dark so I would worry a navy would make it feel like a cave. Also since we installed the fancy cherry craftsman trim that my dad and I made I'm very anti-repainting because it will be super hard to paint around all the details and not get it on the trim. For this reason I picked a nice blue/green/gray for one bedroom (similar to Silver Sage) and this light sage green color because they are fairly neutral and work well with the cherry trim and hickory floors.
For fun this is C's big girl room inspiration with her nursery rug moved into that room.
I bought her a white channel stitch quilt and my mom and I are going to add fabric pom poms to it made with the left over fabric we have from her nursery quilt (which was coordinated to match the rug). This is the quilt:

We only have two bedrooms for the kids so DD#2 will be staying in this room. Either way I need to buy a new rug and the window treatments are DIY so they aren't a huge expense. Plus I don't want to base my rug purchase around coordinating with the old curtains just because of that. They are a very specific coral/pink that I picked to match the other rug.
Other than that we bought this dresser that we'll be painting and probably making a new top for. We'll also need to make a new bookcase.
I might try to find some different pulls for the dresser since I think the drop pulls might get annoying. They will need to be vintage or vintage looking though to go with that dresser style.

FWIW, none of those rooms scream "boy" to me, so I definitely think they're neutral but skew more girl. The color of the walls is great and I think every girl room when my DS1 was born was a combo of pink/sage green or purple/sage green.
Dang! I just realized the purple PB rug in the last two is now discontinued. It was just for sale 3 weeks ago when I was looking at rugs! It might be number 1 by default.
I know you said you didn't want to paint but what about a lilac wall color with the rest of this combination? Lilac might also look great with other PBK rug and this blue fabric.SaveSave
