So I think we've officially decided our road trip this summer will be to Yellowstone! I've never been there and H hasn't been since he was a kid. We are going to drive there through SD so we can stop at a few places (visit BFF, Mount Rushmore, Wall Drug) and probably back through ND. We might leave on a Fri night if we can stay with BFF and then we have the whole next week. We need 2 days of travel time each way so that gives us 4-5 days of we want to take the whole time. I'm thinking 3-4 days though to give us a rest day at home.
Anyways, I'm looking for recommendations! I know we can't see everything but I'm thinking we can stick with the northern part for now, especially Old Faithful. I want to stay close to that entrance at least one night so we can get there early.
Anyone have suggestions for places to stay and things to see? The trip isn't until June but I want to start gathering ideas and maybe book things soon if I find good deals!

Lurker jumping in :-)
My DH is actually from Montana so we've been to Yellowstone a few times. It's beautiful! We go to Glacier more often now since it's closer, but I loved our time at Yellowstone. I've been in the winter and summer.
The first time we went, we stayed at the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel. It was great! We were right by the hot springs and had fun adventuring. There is a long pathway over all the hot springs so you can go exploring. It was cool to be there in the winter! Since it was winter so we did a snow coach through the park. Obviously not an option in the summer :-P We stayed in the hotel, not the cabins, but I bet the cabins would be great!
We did not stay here, but the Old Faithful Inn is the hotel closest to Old Faithful, and it's really lovely inside! I am sure the rooms are fabulous. I believe it sells out fast so good that you are planning early :-)
I haven't been super recently, but my IL's have been numerous times, so just let me know if you want recommendations for the best trails, restaurants, etc and I'll be happy to ask them!
Oh and Wall Drug is awesome :-P We stopped when we did a cross country road trip from PA to Montana :-)

Thank you jennybee1018! I will have to look at those hotels! I'd be interested in mostly driving and shorter trails since hiking with a toddler/stroller doesn't sound fun, lol. And I'm excited to go to Wall Drug again, it's been over 20 years and it's a family name so it's a must on our way
