During a middle of the night nursing/Pinterest surfing session I came across these great rope basket/tote bags that are crocheted together. I want to make a bunch, but I don't know how to crochet. I'm a self taught knitter/stitcher/quilter, so I'm not afraid to jump in and try to figure things out.
Does anyone have resources (online or otherwise) they can recommend to get me started?
Youtube if you're a self sufficient visual learner, books (find one that has projects that interest you) almost always have a decent "getting started" section, if you're a book learner, classes are great if you need the motivation (and aren't a bad way to get some "me time" scheduled). I learn best from books and winging it- making horribly dorky hats for my then baby DS (he's 9yo and still thinks the pictures are funny- ha).
Do you know the crab stitch (from knitting)? It's actually a reverse single crochet stitch- I imagine most of the baskets you saw used (normal) single crochet stitch- so you're almost there, already!
