Wow- there can't be much money in that for them, it's awesome that they did it anyway.
Okay, so I'm a total cynic and I do think there is money in this for them. By supplying a previously unmet need, they are increasing the chances a hospital will enter a contract with them to stock only Huggies diapers. This also increases the chances that once people leave the hospital they will continue to use Huggies since it's 'what they know.'
But, I do love that these are now available for the babies who need them!

This is true! They gave us Pampers in the hospital and we have pretty much stuck with those.
This is a very smart move for Huggies I think. Builds great good will and it probably a smart business decision too.

This is my take as well. They won't make money on the diapers but they will make money on the customers. #createbrandloyalty
It is great for micro preemies, no matter the motives, so still a win in my book!
Wow! So little, I'm glad they are filling that need. I bet pampers comes up with a comparable product in the next few months. They don't want to lose all that hospital business.
I'm glad they created them to fill that unmet need. I wonder how long it will take other brands to copy them. They gave us Pampers at the hospital and we haven't changed since.
Pampers already has a micro preemie diaper. We called them wee pees in the nicu I worked at. They were sometimes a little tall for our tiniest babies so I wonder how these fit compared to pampers.

They're probably charging hospitals a lot of money for these. I'm sure they're making plenty on the diapers themselves, and also in brand loyalty.
I'm glad that a product exists for micropremies though!
Huggies has been making a micro preemie diaper which is what my 2 lb 5 oz smallest triplet wore for awhile. Once he grew out of it, the NICU switched him to Pampers Swaddlers preemies and then they wore Pampers the rest of their stay.
I saw this yesterday and was surprised nothing like this was made before. But now reading on here I see Pampers already had something like this, I just didn't know it. When DS was in the NICU he wore the newborn size and that fit fine, so I don't have experience with needing smaller ones. Glad that another company is filling that need though!
Another thing I didn't see in the article is that the commercial says they are all hand inspected and packed into boxes by a human. <3
They are also made out of a different material so they are softer on the inside, the the tabs can be stretched into different directions to accommodate wires. SaveSave

I think these are actually smaller than the micro preemies. Huggies now has sizes in: preemie, micro preemie, and this new nano preemie.

I thought this picture was neat for comparison. Crazy how very tiny those babies are when I think about how small the newborn ones (on the left) seemed to me.
I wouldn't say that they're meeting an unmet need... we have plenty of micropreemie diapers in our nicu. About the same it looks in the pictures. I think they just want a piece of the pie because they contract with a lot of hospitals (mine included) to supply larger sizes.
My son was 2 pounds at birth and they only had Pampers. Even the preemie size was swimming on him!
This is a good decision for Huggies. We always used Pampers because it was what we knew. I did try Huggies when he moved up to a size 2 (someone bought me a gigantic box at my shower) but we didn't like them. Could have been because we were used to Pampers by that point.
What is the difference between a nano preemie and a micro preemie? I have never heard the nano term before.
I assumed that was just Huggies trying to differentiate that it's smaller than their micro preemie diaper? pooh8402, there's no such thing as a nano preemie, right?

No, a micropreemie is less than 26 weeks gestational age, or less than 800g (1#12).

This just made me cry. DD was 9 weeks early and wore preemie diapers at 3 and a half pounds. A nurse showed me a micropreemie diaper one day and I couldn't believe how tiny it was. This new nano preemie diaper is so, so tiny.
Hey, if it makes a small percentage of babies more comfortable, or their parents happier because something actually fits them even if another item may suffice, I'm all for it.
Sure companies are in it for the money - but they also want to promote products which appeal to their consumers.SaveSave

Pampers does have them already. They're small enough to fit 1 pounders and promote healthy hip alignment.
