People keep commenting on my sewing posts mentioning how they want to get back into it. I had no idea so many of you used to also (or currently) sew! What do you make? Any pictures?
I used to do a lot of quilting. I find it very soothing, especially doing patterns like log cabin blocks. I really need to finish cleaning out my office so that I can find space for a sewing/quilting area. Now that I'm done with school, I finally have enough free time that I could start doing it again. It's been years since I stopped.

I just started sewing and quilting last summer. Before then, the only time I had really used a sewing machine was to make a windsock in Jr. High home ec, and in high school, when I helped my mom make some mini nine-patch quilts for some covered wagons she and my dad were making for center pieces.
So far I have completed two "couch quilts", one for my son, one for me, that I did with the sewing machine. I've completed one baby quilt, hand pieced and quilted (although it was only three pieces, since I used a printed panel). I'm in the middle of a second hand quilted baby quilt, and a friend has asked me to make two baby quilts for her brothers, both expecting babies this spring. I have designed one and will try to get them done at the end of the month (will be machine pieced/quilted).
I make fabric postcards that I swap with members on a quilting board.
I've also sewn: pj pants (both flannel and fleece), a shirt for myself, a bathrobe for DS, hot pads, microwave bowls, stockings, aprons, and am in the middle of a vest for DS, and a cloak for myself. Oh, and double sided receiving blankets to donate to the NICU where my son spent his first two weeks.
I'm having a lot of fun and really glad I finally picked it up as a hobby. My mom is pretty happy too, since I now share her hobby (she is awesome, she even made my wedding dress!), and I'm always asking her for advice, ideas, suggestions, etc.

I attempted to sew something once and it's not a talent of mine, lol. I wish I could though! If anyone wants to talk crocheting I'm all in
You can answer a question for me about it. Today on a sewing board a crocheter referred to herself and other crocheters as "hookers". I thought it was funny, but wondered if it's a common term or just her being sassy.

I don't know if I'd call it common, but I have heard it before as a joking way to refer to people that crochet since you use a hook
I have only made one pillowcase, but I'd love to learn to make more things.
Do you want to come to my next sewing day? I've been teaching beginner classes casually. I don't charge, people just bring their own materials and we all do the same easy project together (like leggings).
dragon's breath My brother had that exact same bear car blanket growing up <3 brings back fond memories. Very cute stuff!

amaranth, the bear car material was some of the first I bought. I found a 2' wide piece at Salvation Army, then got the blue border fabric and the back piece out of the remnant section at JoAnn's. I have a friend with a son in his 20s who had a blanket made from the same print, and her grandson now plays on it!
I usually just repair or re-purpose clothes. Most recently I folded & sew three receiving blankets into triple layer burp cloths. Next is to use the rotary cutter I finally bought to turn DH's old t-shirts in cloth wipes. Debating sewing together for two layers or just zig-zagging the edges.
I've never used a sewing machine outside of grade 10 sewing class. Lol, but I have a very basic machine my mom gave me and I really want to try it out. Maybe once we get all the renos done to our rental property I will try it. (So by the end of March.)

I haven't made it to the fabric store yet but plan on it soon. I may go this weekend since I'm sending H away without me. I was also thinking about trying quilting.
panicfoot That looks great, and pretty complicated. Are you an advanced quilter?
I have been quilting for about two years now and have done about 15 quilts. I don't see myself as an advanced quilter, but I'm probably on the high side of moderate.
