I don't understand the dry skin reasoning. They get lotion every night. Faces get aquaphor. No one is peeling like a reptile.
I honestly didn't know that not everyone doesn't put on lotion everyday till I had a white roommate in college. I was like does not compute. Lotion is one toiletry that I never ever leave home without when traveling no matter how small my bag is.

I learned in the giant makeup thread on CEP that people did not moisturize their face everyday. I thought all those people saying they wished they had started moisturizing earlier just meant using better products specific to the face. I assumed they were using body lotion on their face. I had no idea people were not putting anything on their faces, or their children's faces. I was shocked.
I'm fascinated by the lack of bathing and the pride that comes with it. I know several MC and UMC white women who basically brag about not showering and not bathing their kids. I don't get it.

Yes to the bolded, though "fascinated" is a nice way to put it. It's bizarre to me lol.

Oh wow I didn't realize that either. I've seen some of those posts on make up and ML and thought the same as you.
Lol at the pride of not bathing. I can't remember who it was but when we had the typical using a wash cloth thread on CEP someone couldn't figure out how to use a washcloth because they had nowhere to hang one in the shower and thought it would drip all over the floor.
I was like uhh it's not rocket science, just wring it out and hang it on the bar next to your towel.

This thread. Love it. Confession: I am a reformed lotion hater. I used to hate using lotion on my body. It always felt too greasy. Then I fell in love with coconut oil and shea butter and I have been hooked ever since. I think I just didn't like the ones I was using and it was coloring my lotion experience. To be clear, I used it to combat dry skin but I didn't love it like I do now.

I didn't know until these boards! My white roommate used lotion everyday, too.
Lotion, chapstick and leave in spray are the three things I have on my person basically at all time.
I guess I haven't been lurking on these boards long enough because I DID NOT KNOW that there are people who don't ever put any kind of lotion on their face or body!! And I grew up with white people. LOL.
My mother and grandmothers would say in a heartbeat, we may never have had any money, but our kids were bathed, greased, and dressed in clean and matching clothes each and every day!

When I said this before I was told I don't understand what dry skin is. Apparently it is so dry it bleeds but I'm like if you put lotion on every day it won't get that dry right.

I've been trying to think of a correct way to say this but can't. My mom used to say growing up that the reason we were maids as slaves and as free people was because white people were so dirty. I'd look around at our modest but super clean house and just couldn't understand.
Until I was on The Nest and then here.
I cannot fathom not taking showers and baths daily without dry skin EVER being a problem or concern. Who wants to walk around with a dirty butt? That's nasty.
My mother would bathe me every day, lotion me up, and slap perfume on me, cuz there was no way I was gonna smell like anything but violetas Francesas or Royal Violets (I still keep a bottle of each from PR among my scent stash).
When we came to MN she was appalled APALLED at how many dirty and smelly kids were around.
Oh...OH! Also this one time, I had one of my first sleepovers ever (I actually think I was like 5 or 6), and it happened to be on "bath night" for my friend. I think my parents were out of town for something and they were actually also caring for me, so I got a bath as well. I got scolded and the mom had "a talk" with my mom cuz I was touching my bits in the bath with the wash cloth. My mom was all, "how else is she supposed to get clean down there?"
I have to confess The my kid has sensitive skin so we have to use fragrance free stuff on her. She usually doesn't smell like much of anything. Her hair products have scents but it's very light. You have to get all up in her head to smell something.
It is funny the things you are taught and never really think of the origins. All this here, keeping your receipt in your hand when leaving a store, hating cats, etc.

YES on the cats!! We were never allowed to eat at a friend's house who had cats "'cause they're nasty"!

My coworker and I were discussing my dislike of potlucks. I told her I don't know what people have going on in their kitchens. I said, "they may let cats walk on the counter tops". She said, "what's wrong with that". You should have seen my face. Point proved. You won't catch me at a putluck. Nasty mofos.
:? what's wrong with that? what's wrong with that? OMG

Omg....
The hating cats, like literally there is a thing where if a cat crosses your path you are supposed to pull over and pray.
I'm not going to mention whether or not I um have done this.....
I ALWAYS have my receipt in my hand. Also, if my kid has a hat on, and takes it off in the cart it causes me stress b/c I think I'm going to be accused of stealing.

I have told these ladies this is why we squat over toilets and don't eat food at potlucks cause our grannies taught us that Miss Ann is nasty.
Preach. I dare one of y'all to go start a thread about housekeeping. Proud nastiness abounds. Toledo was one of the biggest offenders.
LOL. My Mom hated cats so, so much. She was so disturbed when I got one as an adult. I ended up rehoming after about 6 months because it turned out that I don't like them either. I guess it really is ingrained.
The cat hate cracks me up. One of my friends will go on a nasty cat rant whenever she sees one. She's already teaching DD that cats are evil and disgusting.
I went to this man's house once (it's a long story why I was in there), and he was making a lasagna. His cat had its nose in the container of ricotta cheese, and its bare ass flapping over the pan of sauce and noodles. I just know that fool was taking it to a potluck.
