DD1 has her First Communion this year. If you've been through this with your kids, what did people give as gifts? It is pretty much just religious gifts and checks? Or were there some "regular" type presents, too?
We haven't done first communion yet, but I expect it to be along the same lines as baptisms. For Hobbes' baptism, she got a mix: some religious tchotchkes, children's bibles, and the like, some checks for college, and some more general baby/young child gifts, like a backpack carrier. Personally, I tend to write checks for college when attending other peoples' kids'.
Sometimes Godparents/Grandparents give a cross necklace/earrings. Or for religious presents, rosary beads, a Precious Moments figurine, nice picture frame, cross to hang in a their room, bible, book of religious stories, etc.
We are not religious but DH was raised Catholic and is going to be his sisters sons godfather who is being baptized next month. We are going to write a check and give a Celtic cross from Ireland for his room (they are Irish). People suggested bibles and whatnot but the cross was a good middle of the road thing that I feel comfortable giving.
Okay, thanks, that's what I thought/remembered. I think she might get an American Girl gift or two anyway, b/c I have a couple things stashed away and want her to get a couple "fun" items, too.
We're giving something religious. I'm sure my parents and sister will do the same. My ils probably won't give anything. We can only invite 10 people so we aren't doing a party.
