I feel like this is white foolishness and ignorance. POC know that people of the same race have different skin complexions. It's common for siblings to have different complexions so it's not surprising that this happens with twins. When you see the family picture of the redhead and curly twins they are look alike but all have differing shades. Millions of families have photos that look just like that. This shit is dumb.

But it reminds me of the time this chick at a mutual friend's playdate asked why my kids had different complextions. The girl is darker than the boy. I just replied, "We each got one that looked like us" but what I really wanted to say is that you must not have any black friends.
I mean I'm brown skin brown eyes and my sister is light skin green eyes. Throwbacks. And now I'm thinking about how Queenie was warned about marrying that white dude lol

exactly. My husband and I are on the lighter side of the spectrum, and our daughter is chocolate brown. Both of us have one light parent and one dark parent. Our siblings are also an interesting mix of shades. We won't even get into the hair texture differences that seem to randomly pop up. It's not that serious.

This is some serious white foolishness.
In any case, I read that the Aylmer twins' mother is biracial, so no, it isn't that hard to believe. If the father is white, which he appears to be, sent recessive genes for light eyes and hair, and the mother sent recessive genes for the same... voila! you get a kid with such features. If dominant genes were expressed in the other twin/sibling, she'd get those specific traits. Actually, a lot of those stories involve biracial parents where it's very possible to pass on recessive genes to one child and dominant genes to another. Why is that news to white people?
Here's another article. Their kids look similar to my kids. I'm Black/white and my first and now-husband are white. Two of my kids had dirty blonde hair until preschool years. That makes sense considering my ex is blonde and my father was blonde for many years. My middle daughter is very fair. She and my oldest don't look like siblings, at least I don't see it at all. Different genes were expressed.
My older two. No one ever suspects they're sisters, and my middle daughter only gets asked about her "race" due to her hair texture, which is identical to mine.

Ugh. More nonsense. One is not Black and the other white. They're both, and I can tell they're both. I've never met a Black person who couldn't tell I was half Black, but white folks seem to be clueless and make ignorant racist assumptions about ethnicity and genetics. When most Black folks in Western countries have European heritage, why is it such a shock that some PoC have recessive traits and features.
I had a co-worker/friend years ago with three girls. She's Black and her fiance German and Russian with platinum blonde hair and bright blue eyes. All three daughters have fair skin, blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She likely has some European ancestry. Everyone was shocked when her first daughter was born. Most assume she's the babysitter. The thing is, even with fairer skin, blonde hair and blue eyes, I could tell they're biracial. They looked like their mom, too.

Yep. Throwback genes. My mom has lighter complexion. The lightest of all her siblings. One of her brothers has green/hazel eyes. All of his kids inherited his eye color, but they had blue eyes for several years until they changed.

Maybe I'm missing the point.
They're black. Both of them. We come in all sorts of beautiful shades. Biracial children - even as light as me - may have two DNAs and ethnic backgrounds but in this country, we are Black - even President Obama. He was never described as the first "biracial" President. He was the first Black President.
Like others have said, I have met very few black people who didn't know I was black even with my blonde hair. Had we had biological children, we had no set expectations because we're both biracial and have dark and light on both sides and knew we could get anything on either side of the spectrum and in between.

This description just goes against everything I have made up in my head. Hmm.

this is cracking me up. Do I even want to know what you made up in your head?

Definitely chocolate brown. You have talked about your parents being borderline militant. Basically you look like my avatar in my head lol. But maybe darker skin.
What foolishness. Not gonna lie though, the red head with straight hair doesn't look black to me. But the rest of those kids on that page, the ones they are calling "white"...well hell naw, those are all black kids to me.

Especially the handsome young men around 20 or so? They both look black to me.
Yep definitely black! No second guessing that one.

Whenever I see pictures from people passing backbin the day, I'm like "how could people not know they were black?!"
I have my own issues with my children not looking like me and no all to well about throw back genes. Other Asians can always spot them as Asians though, lol.

I showed the pics to my (white) husband. He said "I guess the light guy is white? He looks black to me." So...

I think the pics of the red haired twin with curly hair make her look "other" but I agree if I saw her with straight hair out and about I would probably never think black.
The others remind me of a Law & Order episode waiting to happen. All the white people think they are white until they have an obviously black kid.
