Wow. I kept putting it off because my boyfriend wanted to go with me and our schedules never coincided. But I told him I was going without him since he was supposed to come with me to DC but couldn't at the last minute. So I said fuck it, I do what I want!
So I saw it in DC at a theater kind of near Chinatown. The theater was packed! I got there right as it was starting and luckily I was by myself because there were no 2 seats together. I think the audience was mostly white.
I was sitting by an older white man who sounded American (he said something quickly to me when I sat down and he didn't sound to have an accent) and throughout the movie he was making a lot of comments and expressing his disbelief. I just found it interesting as I assume he lived through that era. But maybe he wasn't American and this was all new to him.
Anyway, great movie. I need to read more of James Baldwin's work. I will go see it again. Next up will go see Get Out.
Are there any other movies directed by or starring mostly POC out now?
There are so many movies I want to go see. And you are in DC and I have the flu. How was your race? It is/was cold.
I will be back next month! I was planning on PMing a few people about it
The race was great and I got 8th place in my division, an unexpected surprise since I just got over an injury. The cold was brutal but I was able to get back to where I was staying and shower and warm up quickly, so that was good.
