President Obama pushed back against Mitt Romney's accusation that his administration mishandled its response to the Libya crisis, noting that Romney bungled basic facts in his Tuesday night statement.
"There's a broader lesson to be learned here: Gov. Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later and as president one of the things I've learned is you can't do that," Obama told CBS News Wednesday."It's important for you to make sure that the statements that you make are backed up by the facts and that you've thought through the ramifications before you make them."

It's a great response, because it slams Romney without making Obama look overly partisan. Obama gets to play the wise statesmen with a measured foreign policy who's patting Romney on the head and telling him that he's not quite ready for the big leagues.

I don't think Obama should have addressed Romney at all. Most media reports I've seen have been scathing toward Romney's statement and this morning's speech - let them and a campaign spokesperson take care of commenting.

Normally, I would agree but in this dealing with such a tenuous situation, I am glad that he sent the message that he is in charge. Moreorless letting the world know that Romney is not speaking as a representative of the American government.
