So glad everything is looking good! All my midwife appointments were 45-90 minutes. The one time I needed to see an OB (midwife was on vacation), I saw the dr for approximately 5 minutes. The holistic care from the midwife made the experience so much better for me.
out of curiosity, do midwives practices support epidurals?
Yes. When I was in labor, 2 other girls were in labor at the same time and I was the only one not getting an epidural. My midwife was pretty much a doula since she was able to hang with me most of the time while the other girls hung out and waited for the baby.
ETA: That's great, Jenny! I wonder if you're using the same midwife practice that I did--Swedish Midwifery in Ballard.
Congrats! Glad the bean looks well. How's your "morning" sickness? I always remember you and cosmos having the terrible nausea/vomiting like I did and I'm hoping the two of you have it easier on your second go rounds. It will give me the courage to try for #2.

Glad it went well!
Out of curiosity, what do you discuss that needs 45 minutes? I am not a girl who asks a ton of questions so maybe that is my confusion. I never had an OB visit where I spent more than 20 minutes or so with my dr. I lack the attention span for that.
Glad it went so well! I really preferred the midwife practice I went to with DD- I think going to OBs the first time around really showed the contrast in the level of care and attentiveness with the midwives.

I feel like my mid-wife is a pregnancy coach. She will talk to me about things like breastfeeding, labor, what my plans are possible solutions for any issues I may be having. She brings things to my attention, whereas my doctor answers questions that I ask him.

Well, it hit on virtually the exact same day this time LOL (right at 6.5 weeks with the vomiting). I got a zofran prescription right away and that definitely takes the edge off, but I am still nauseous most of the time (and still throw up occasionally). Crossing my fingers it goes away earlier this time. :-)
DH has been awesome and has been taking care of the house and a lot of the Lucy stuff so I can rest. I find if I can lay down when I get home from work, it helps a ton (mine is always worse in the evening, which was the case when I was pregnant with Lu as well).
It definitely makes me think #2 might be our last LOL.
+o( :-( I was so miserable last time. I can't imagine going through that again with a toddler. What I would give to be one of those women who breezes through first tri!!!
Yay! We moved away from my midwife when I was 7 months PG and oh boy did I miss her. Our small town only has an OB, and I feel rushed out every time I go. I miss my leisurely midwife appointments.

One time I cried for like 20 minutes because I was upset I was getting fat.
Yes, I'm embarrassed. My midwife wasn't fazed at all.

Most of my appointments were 45 minutes. But after the initial intake we would talk about diet, and exercises and feelings
She would also teach me how to feel the size of my uterus and other stuff. And just address any concerns I had. I guess it is just that you don't feel rushed. With my DR (whether OB or any dr) I always feel rushed.
I had my first OB appointment this morning and complained to my DH after we left that I don't know why my OB takes so long and insists on being so chatty (I was mostly kidding--I really love my OB). I guess I would not be a good candidate for a midwife.
But I am very glad to hear that others are getting the care they want!
Admittedly, it could just be my old OB, but I have been surprised by how focused the midwife group I am seeing is on mental health. Before they even knew about my OCD, there were tons of questions about vulnerability to PP depression, anxiety, etc.
My OB literally never ONCE asked during my last pregnancy or at my six week post partum visit how I was coping emotionally. When I told her about my anxiety, she was like, "Oh. I'll write you a prescription for zoloft. That should take care of it" and moved on to the rest of the four minute visit.

Congrats! (saw the ticker but never had a change to say it)
Are midwives, in general, supporting of a typical birth experience - hospital, epidural, etc? The one person I know IRL who used a midwife was really annoying with how her natural experience was so superior.
My OB is a nice person, but I really wish he wasn't always so rushed and he actually asked me how I was feeling and explained PPD to me.
