I rarely complain, but WTF? I doubt the USPS will do anything though. Probably easier to talk to whoever you bought it from and let them know it was damaged.
That's awful. I'd be so pissed, and I'd absolutely complain. That mail carrier sucks; it's not like they did that by accident; it took some effort to fold that book in half like that.
The label even says "Please do not bend books"! I would've thought that was one of the most ridiculous comments- DUH! Who folds books? Apparently not....
I would contact the local post office to obviously request this doesn't happen again and tell them you are contacting the sender for a replacement. Based on prior experience, they just don't care, so I wouldn't expect a response.
Contact the company that sent it; they are the ones who have contracted with the USPS to send their packages and they have the pull to make sure this doesn't keep happening

Absolutely complain. I'd guess more durable packaging is cost prohibitive for Imagination Library. We had several books come slightly damaged but never that bad. Ours looked like they got dinged up in transit, not intentionally folded in half so someone didn't have to get out of the car. I'm assuming there was an alternate place the mail carrier could have left the book.
I work with books every day, so I can imagine the effort it took to do that, even with a kids book. Definitely complain, to everyone. Maybe even leave a note on your mailbox that says, 'Do NOT FOLD BOOKS" or something.
Our mailman does shit like this all the time because he doesn't feel like getting out and walking things to the door. He'll cram things in our mailbox that I had to have DH come pull to get it out because it was crammed in there so hard (BECAUSE IT OBVIOUSLY WAS TOO BIG TO FIT).
I would, yes. I also bet if you contact IL, they'll replace it. So bizarre he folded it. Seems like way more effort than walking it to your door. And you know he had more than yours that delivery.
We've been getting them for 2.5 years and never had any issues. Sorry your mailman mangled it!
