Swimmers, do you listen to anything while swimming? I recently took up this activity but was so bored with laps and need music or a book to listen to. I found the waterproof iPod shuffle for $130 but I have spent so much on other trinkets for the other sports that I'm balking at spending that much on something else.
I kinda enjoy the silence. But I also run without music by myself. It's my 'NOBODY IS TOUCHING ME OR TALKING TO ME OMG YAY' time.
I do a group class/lesson/workout thing though, it's an hour and a half and it FLIES by. Which is kind of in line with the drills/workout rather than just getting in the pool and swimming while trying to count laps. breaks up the time to do a set of this and a set of that at different paces and so forth.

It's thursday now, but this isn't worth a new thread - I CANNOT for the life of me figure out my training plan from there through my first tri of the season.
there's just...kinda too much going on. I know what I want my priorities to be, but I've agreed to a bunch of bike stuff with MH that's kinda getting in the way and it's just...frustrating.
Also whenever I put something on the schedule that involves more than 90 minutes on the trainer I just...can't. IT'S SO LONG. PLEASE DONT' MAKE ME. I GET SO BORED. But getting out for a long ride outside is just so damn hard with the kids. At least on the trainer H and I can do it together without a babysitter. i really want to do these longer rides - half century now - century in the fall, etc - but finding/making time for long training rides continues to be my biggest challenge.

As much as possible outside. Not only are you likely to ride harder outside, you need the time on your bike for handling skills.
I ride mostly on the trainer in the winter. My efforts outside are always harder outside (power based training) than inside. You simply can't hit the watts (effort/power) inside that you can outside.

Interesting. Not having a power meter I have no basis for comparison like that, but that makes sense. Trainer rides feel "harder" to me since there's no natural rest points where you'd coast down a hill for a minute. All of my usual routes in the real world are just constant up and down so outside I'm used to the challenge up a hill and then enjoying the descent and it's weirdly challenging to just...keep going. But I suppose it's not actually *harder* per say.
The bike handling makes perfect sense. When I took my bike off the trainer and actually rode outside a few weeks ago MH was like, "uhhh, don't fall down. Don't forget you're off the trainer." There are some tight turns on the course for the tri I'm doing in June, so I definitely need to be on the ball on that.
