I am looking for recommendations for a silver looking paint color. I'm not talking a shiney color, like a metallic, but a gray that leans toward silver.
Grays are really hard. I would recommend you go into a Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore store and talk with them about what exactly you are looking for. I have found that I can't get a good feel for a gray from a paint chip, especially because the color shifts depending on the lighting in the room, so I always get a sample to test before committing to a full gallon (or more) of gray. Yeah... learned that the hard way.
That said, I really like these Sherwin Williams recommendations:
I just did my bathroom in Worldly Gray (it's the SW equivalent of Revere Pewter). It wasn't at ALL what I thought I was looking for at first. But once I saw it on the walls, I was sold.
Oh, I know! I currently have SW Morning fog in my office. It's a pretty gray, but I just want more of a silver. I thought recommendations would give me a good place to start. And then I will buy probably a dozen samples. The amount of sample cans I have in my basement is ridiculous. Lol.

Most of the silvery gray colors I've seen lean towards purple. Some ideas, though:
BM Shoreline, BM Wickham Gray, SW Light French Gray, Olympic Thin Ice (which does lean purple but is a very light silvery color), and Behr's Silver Screen color (which is what some home theater aficionados swear by for projector screen walls).

Actually, I'm cool with it leaning towards purple. The accent walls in this room are a deep purple.
Thanks for the suggestions, I will check them out!

I like popular gray - also by SW, but feel like it leans silver in daytime and then more purple at dusk. We have it in the hall and dining room and eventually will have it in the living room too.

Back again - sorry.
I also saw some ideas on pinterest recently. It includes ideas like Valspar simple shimmer, using pearl white paint over other paint, and mixing paint crystals into your gray paint and such.

I'm glad you are back! Thank you for all the suggestions. I will definitely look in to all your suggestions!!

This is random, but I remember watching some home improvement show where they tried a silver paint (I think it was a Ralph Lauren one) that was kind of metallic, and in the end they had to rent a paint sprayer because it didn't look right when rolled on. But, maybe that's only a problem with the more metallic finishes. Just figured I'd give you the heads up!

Oh! I think I will pass on the metallic finish. I just want the color to look more silver than gray. I don't need it to shine.
I remember looking for a silvery gray at our old house and having a really hard time. Part of the problem was that everyone I asked for opinions had a different idea of what silver meant, and I was so overwhelmed with samples that weren't right that I couldn't think straight.
I finally tried for a true gray that was a little on the cool side, and went with SW Lazy Gray. In certain light, and only on one wall of our bedroom, it leaned a little blue or purple, but it still read as gray. I looked for a color that had decent light reflective values, figuring that would help with the effect that I wanted. SW Daydream is similar, but does have more purple in it. Both of those were a darker than what I had been originally thinking, but light silvery grays often read as white or dirty white....or worse, the undertones came through like anemic pastels.
I went a little different at this house, and went with BM Whisper. I describe it as either 'sort of stone color' (assuming that stones are grayish and not brownish-lol), or as being 'not exactly gray, and definitely not white', and it looks different depending on the lighting in the room. When I look at it in our kitchen, it is more like what I was thinking of for our old house, just a slightly warmer version. We used it on the exterior of our house too, and our house almost looks white, unless you see something white next to it. We still haven't finished painting part of the house in the courtyard, but there is a huge square painted on one wall, and everyone who has seen it has been surprised at how obvious the difference is between the Whisper and the white.
Interesting. My current color is SW Morning Fog. Lazy Gray is one shade lighter than that. I wonder if the lighter color will give me that silver look. Thanks! I will definitely get a sample!
SW mindful gray leans silver with slightly purple undertones.
Eh I thought it leaned slightly brown. I had it in E's room at my old house and I wouldn't describe it as purple or silver at all. In fact, I specifically looked for something that was not purple. And I like purple tones--I had 3 different purples in my old house.
We have the color gravity which is from Valspar in our 2nd bedroom. I took the color swatch to sherwin williams though since I like their paint better and had it matched. I love how ours turned out. It's more silver and grey with a hint of blue undertones at night.
