Poor H, mr foreign policy wonk, had no idea. He's isolated and had just pulled a 16 hr shift. So, dorks that we are, when I got to talk to him for the first time in many days, I filled him in on this stuff. We could have said sweet nothings to each other with our limited time. Oops.
Where did you see all this? Personally unless there is a ship that literally just got told they are leaving or really got routed there I don't think its anything different ship wise. I know when all the Iran stuff happened late last year H had just left for their regularly scheduled deployment, and it was all over the news that his carrier was now "barreling towards the area" for backup. Yeah, no, they were planning for a year to go to their regular area, and still did a port visit while supposedly "barreling." I know the news is horrible for exaggerating, but I think they use the Navy to do it even more because ship movement is easier to follow.
It is scary that its escalated to this level but I'm glad they are getting involved on a smaller scale to hopefully control it.
When DH landed in the Baltimore airport the other day they told them Al Queda took credit for the attacks and raised one of their flags over the embassy. I wasn't aware their involvement was a rumor?
H usually feels that way after a deployment. Then a year goes by and it's like he forgets. And then he can't wait to go again.
MH is like this too but this deployment wore him so thin (by nature of his job) I don't think he'll be wanting to go on another combat deployment for a long time.

As soon as I heard it happened I got this sickening feeling. :/ It is scary and I'm curious to see how this will impact H's current mission. I wont know until I talk to him but in the meantime I know he is safe.
This is probably dramatic, but J is coming to the very end of his enlistment and I am terrified he will be called back. His deployment was rough for their unit.

So me being not a TV person, my concern was mainly over the attacks in general. Then I spent an hour at the MTF today and they had TV news on. No wonder people get so worried!
It bothers me so much that stuff like this is always happening (extremist attacks in general) but I'm so glad that we have such a beefy Armed Forces system to defend ourselves with.

I don't have a link, but I heard it from a proper news source last night. I think it was while listening to BBC.

Also on the subject of Navy ship movement if I really had to wager a guess they were probably not too far off to begin with and wouldn't you expect them to kinda want a little extra support in the area?
We sent the same groups to reinforce embassy security during the Arab Spring protests. It's just precautionary, but I get the rising concern, believe me.
