Julie and I are using a known donor with at home insemination when we start to TTC. Our donor is currently getting all of his testing and is in the 6 month waiting period. While we are waiting we have the option for genetic testing. Is this something you would peruse. I understand the benefits but on the flip side millions of children are born healthy everyday without the extra test.
WWYD?
Julie is so laid back she doesn't care either way. I just need an opinion
Depends... do either he or whichever of you is carrying have any genetic diseases in your family history? How well does he know his family history? How attached to having him be the donor are you? My inclination is that if insurance is paying I'd do it, but if you're paying skip it.
Sure, many babies are born healthy without it, but if anything does go wrong will you always wish you picked a different donor?

I don't know of any genetic disorders on any side of my family. None. And as for his. He isn't aware of any either. He even asked his grandparents, and mom if their was anyone previously that had any sort of disorder. And they said no. The only thing that came up was the large number of gay relatives he has. ;-) I think we will skip it...unless something changes.
