I am pissed and baffled that such smart people could go through five matches in a matter of hours. I'm sorry, but if you can do heart surgery in the forest, you can build one decent fire and keep it going for quite some time. WTF.

That made me mad too. Derek is supposed to be outdoorsy and woodsy. He can't talk them through building a decent fire? They had plenty of fuel and shit from the plane. Seriously? Has no one seen Dual Survivors, Man vs. Wild, etc. Anything?

Exactly! It doesn't take an outdoorsman to know to pile a whole lot of wood, leaves and other shit together and to not let it go out.

But a proper fire is key to survival. They need the warmth, the smoke to fight off bugs that could lead to nastiness in the wounds, the smoke and light to get noticed by people looking for them, etc. I was mad Arizona wasn't trying to figure out how she could get a fire going while she just sat there and everybody else went to find and help the others. Her bone's sticking out of her leg, I know, but look at what all Derek did and he was all kinds of messed up.
I'm just saying, someone had to have been aware enough to think, step one- get everyone stable, step two- build a fire so we can get the hell out of here. Like Cristina said, after all the fucked up shit they've been through, you'd think they'd be at least a wee bit more prepared in survival thinking. Without a fire, they're done for.
I'm fully aware I take this show way too serious. A four-month break will do me good, lol.

r
LOL.
If Christina can do heart surgery on Derek with a gun to her head (or was it to Meredith's head? I don't remember), and she can do heart surgery on Mark after a plane crash and close friend/colleague dying right in front of her, and Meredith can provide medical care when her husband has been shot and she is in the middle of a miscarriage, there is no way I think it's believable that no one would think to keep the freaking fire going. They had enough common sense to make the fire, so even if in shock or whatever, they should have thought to throw some more leaves and shit on it so it wouldn't go out.
And, yes, I also take Grey's waaayyy to seriously. lol

Uhh Arizona hates the outdoors. Please see valentines episode where Callie took her " camping"
It seemed realistic to me that they all had survived a horrible trauma and were effed up. And not thinking straight. This is exactly. Exactly how people die in the woods... Not thinking right.

I feel you. I was thinking the same thing and I almost rolled my eyes at the end. Then I remembered this book I read on survival instinct and how some people have it and some people don't.
So it seemed a little more realistic that some people just make the wrong decisions is situations like that.
It didn't keep me from trying to tell them what to do from my tv.

Did you see the tiny pile of kindling they continued to re-light. How did they think that would ever burn through the night. I thought everyone knew how to build a fire...?
I can see how people can be dumb about this sort of stuff when they experienced a trama...I cannot see how various people failed to notice a team of transplant doctors never arriving and/or returning via plane for hours. I'm not 100% sure, but I'd be will ing to bet these sorts of flight file a flight plan with the FAA so even if their locator thing gets messed up (WTF?), when they don't arrive at an airport within x amount of time, people get called and the route they were flying gets searched. Since the pilot never mentioned going off course and only said the engine failed (which wouldn't cause an immediate crash) I'm going to assume they were still on normal flight path.
Obviously...I'm also way too invested and irritated by this while storyline. I mean seriously Grey's...come on.

THIS you are 100% right about!! Craziness. I was confused and frustrated about that.
But wasn't there a search helicopter circling overhead, but the flare gun wasn't working? It looked like they were in a really dense area as well, you could hardly see the sky. It's not like nobody noticed, and once Owen checked his messages, there were a ton from the other hospital. But were they only gone for one day and back that night, or away over night? I was really confused about this.
I'll admit that I have minimal survival skills and I'm not completely sure I could start a fire and keep it going very well, or even that it would be my first thought.
i'm watching right now and am 40 min in. What has bothered me thus far is how did they all survive the crash and if they were flying back that same day - why the suitcases and clothes.
